The amazing E-M1II Antarctica pictures from Álvaro Sanz

foto_antarctica

Álvaro Sanz just sent me this:

I’m Álvaro Sanz, photographer, film director and Olympus Visionary.
Since 14th of november I have been photographing southern Chile and the antarctic lands with the new Olympus camera OM-D EM-1 MarkII. I will continue my trip for one more week testing this new camera and enjoying one of the most remote places on the planet. Attached to this email you can find a dossier with more details.
I’m travelling with one more videographer equipped with another EM1 MkII. Our aim is to create a small documentary to test this camera and some of its new features. If you want to see how it works, you can view a teaser recorded in the Drake Passage, the most dangerous sea in the world: https://vimeo.com/193866270

The full picture gallery (And spanish text) can be seen at antarctica.esolympus.es

That’s the kind of story that tells I like to see more than any camera review!

Olympus E-M1II preorders:
In USA at BHphoto, Amazon, GetOlympus and Adorama.
In Europe at ParkCameras. WexUK. Digitech.ch.

The 12-100mm PRO lens is now shipping in USA (and a new review)

Readers informed me that their preorders are now shipping out via BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonFocusCamera, GetOlympus. Amazon.de. PCHstore.

Photographyblog tested the lens and writes:

The Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital ED 12-100mm f/4.0 IS Pro makes a great all-in-one travel partner to the OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera, forming a fast, well-built, weather-proof system that delivers excellent image quality, not to mention featuring the most advanced image stabilisation system of any camera/lens combination currently available.
Optically, it’s not quite a perfect lens though. While both centre and edge sharpness are very high throughout most of its focal length range, the performance drops off a little at the 100mm focal length, where you need to stop down to get acceptable results. Otherwise it’s all good news. Chromatic aberrations are almost completely absent, vignetting is not a real issue, and distortion is very well auto-corrected through software algorithms.
The Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital ED 12-100mm f/4.0 IS Pro is a great choice for those users who want an all-in-one solution to their everyday photography and videography needs, covering a very versatile focal range whilst featuring both a fast f/4 aperture and an amazing image stabilisation system. Highly Recommended!

The YI M1 MFT camera got tested at Dpreview

yi-m1

Dpreview posted the full YI M1 review and I have to say it’s years that I don’t see a camera NOT getting at leats a Silver award. The conclusion is:

The M1 is built around a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor that produces excellent Raw files offering good latitude. JPEGs are subtle in color, but full of detail in good light. Low light JPEGs suffer due to unsophisticated noise reduction. Autofocus routinely fails even on still subjects, while continuous AF is unusable; these problems are only made worse in low-light. The M1 produces some nice Full HD video and the 4K/30p video is capable, but can be very lens dependent and shaky due to the lack of stabilization, with unusable autofocus.

Well at least YI dropped the price of the camera kit by $150 at Amazon US. That maybe helps to make some sales after all.

Dpreview says the Panasonic LX10 is the best compact camera you can buy

lx10

Dpreview compared all new Compact Enthusiast Zoom Cameras and concluded that the new Panasonic LX10/15 is the best on the market:

While there are good reasons to pick any of them, it’s the Panasonic that wins the day for us. Its touchscreen interface means it works well, no matter how much control you want to take and its autofocus is the best we’ve seen, this side of the more expensive RX100 V.

Panasonic LX10 is in Stock for the first time at BHphoto and in Europe at Amazon.de.
