Also Fuji says organic sensor developed with Panasonic will not come in any camera soon.

Fuji confirmed that there is still a long time to go before organic sensors will find their way in mass production cameras (More info at MirrorlessRumors). As you know that kind of sensor is developed in conjunction with Panasonic. I guess it will take at least 2-3 years before we geta MFT camera with such sensor. But maybe in the meantime other new tech will surface that will make that kind of organic sensor useless anyway…

Reminder:
On paper the new Organic sensor has the following advantages over conventional sensors:
1) it has only 1/6 of the thickness of the current sensors
2) Increased Dynamic range of 88dB
3) 1,2 ISO stops more sensitive
4) range of incident angles of 60 degrees, efficiently utilizing light entering at an angle for faithful color reproduction with no color mixing. It also gives greater flexibility in lens designs, facilitating the reduction of overall camera size.

Olympus interview at DC.watch: Talks about large sensor compact, Full Frame, Megapixel race and 4K.

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-25 um 11.46.10

DC.watch interviewed the Olympus managers Masamichi and Suzuki. And those are some of the key info they shared:

– We are not focused on classic Mirrorless cameras only. We also work on completely new kind of cameras (like the Open Platform Lens Camera prototype).
– Olympus says MFT has the best size-quality balance. And Olympus main priority is to strengthen the line.
– Olympus acknowledges the trend now goes toward more high Megapixel cameras
– On the tech front Olympus wants to make cameras that are faster, consume less, better High ISO and with increased Dynamic Range.
– There is a possibility to also use different kind on non-Bayer sensor.
– electronic shutter is also likely to be introduced in future
– we are “investigating” the possibility to make a Four Thirds sensor and fixed lens compact camera
– we have no specific plan yet to use larger sensors (like Full Frame).
– we plan to improve video quality on future cameras (60p and 4K for example).

A bit of everything…

Mirrorleassons:Since it has been extremely foggy here in Turin as of late, Mathieu and I decided document the phenomenon one Sunday morning with the Lumix LX100 and Fuji X100t. The result is this gallery. :) Hope you enjoy it! http://www.bestmirrorlesscamerareviews.com/2014/12/22/fog-on-the-river-po-in-turin-a-fujifilm-x100t-panasonic-lumix-lx100-gallery/

Jan:My best shot I did this year solely using the Panasonic Lumix GM1 in combination with the Voigtländer f0.95 25mm lens – no rig or whatsoever used. https://vimeo.com/101335718

Eyal:If you care for such comparison – I compared my LX100 and my GX7 20mm f/1.7 kit to see who’s sharper. The results are here: http://www.eyalg.com/blog/2014/12/lx100-vs-gx7-sharpness-comparison-test/

Japanese Olympus patent shows E-M5II new sensor shift tech!

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-24 um 09.56.47

For those of you that speak Japanese there is a new Olympus patent No. 2013-187811 describing how the sensor shift tech works (Source: http://astamuse.com/ja/published/JP/No/2013187811).

The patent shows how the shifting creates high-definition images with 1/2 pixel shift and 4 frames.

The E-M5markII will actually increase that to 8 frames (and 40MP resolution images). The sensor used will be the same as the one of the current E-M5 (16MP and no phase detection pixels). But the processor will be new and manage to create those 40MP images on the fly!

Panasonic GM development team interviewed. Also hints that a new GF and GX camera is possile.

DC.watch interviewed the Panasonic team responsible for the GM line development. Here are some of the info they shared:
– Orange GM1 sold more than expected. Green Gm5 will be sold in Asia only. Red Gm cameras are attractive for the female photographers group.
– Panasonic acknowledges people also wants a new GF camera.
– 4K recording on GM5 is not possible because the camera would have to be larger and also power consumption would overheat the circuitry.
– With current technology 4K can fit only in a camera as small as the LX100
– we will “endeavor” to make a GX7 successor :)
