I guess some of you already saw that well made infographic made by Lensvid. It clearly shows you the decline of the overall camera market (Compact, DSLR and Mirrorless). There is no escape, the market is shrinking and will probably shrink further the next couple of years. There are many reasons for that, economic crisis, market saturation and so on. It’s also interesting how the IDC prediction of mirrorless camera shipment is way off the reality. Shows us once again how well paid analysts do (often) big mistakes.

I will give you my forecast based on pure animal instinct: Unlike all these negative reports Mirrorless will do well the coming 2-3 years. You wanna bet a beer with me? :)

Something local: Pekka Potka analyzed the Finnish Camera Market. It’s one of the few European market where Olympus is actually doing pretty well with 21% share of the full system camera market (DSLR+mirrorless). Not far behind Nikon and canon (both around 32%).

If you own the “cheap” and rather unspectacular [shoplink 22691 ebay]Olympus 14-42mm collapsible zoom (here on eBay)[/shoplink]…welll…that new will make your day! It has a unique and surprisingly funny feature. You can actually take shots with it even if you detach it from the camera! ;)

Texas Store listed the price of the Panasonic GH4 (price found via dealsrunner). We had a couple of stores in EU and Asia accepting preorders and some of them listed a price for the cameras that were likely just….pure guess!

Anyway, if $1,699 is really the final price than this is a fair price for a 4K camera! You have to pay much more for the Blackmagic Design Production Camera 4K (here at BHphoto).

Ryan: I recently flew to Thailand with my girlfriend. We had two GH3’s and an Edelkrone slider. Everything flew by very quickly while we were there and getting good footage meant being ready for the shot in the matter of seconds. The GH3’s really stepped up in terms of size and image quality. We shot mostly on the Panasonic 12-35 2.8 and Olympus 75 1.8, which covered a good amount of range (especially with ex-teleconversion) I hope you can post this up to your next round-up. Egami spotted a new “holy grail” alike Olympus patent :)

Olympus is working on a technology that permits to have different exposures time  for different image areas. A bright sky for example will have a shorter exposure times than a darker ground. Sounds a bit like science fiction but I am sure this kind of tech will be ready within a couple of years. And we will have no more over- or underesposure problems!
