Olympus about Full Frame: “nothing is impossible for our developer”

Setsuya Kataoka (left) and Takahiro Tosaka from Olympus

Russian interviewer Kroupski (google translation here) asked Olympus one very specific question about their Full Frame intention. And Setsuya Kataoka answer is:

SK – (laughs). Firstly, we are quite confident in his current platform Micro 4/3. We identify further medium-term strategy for its development. In any case, we focused on it. As for the launch of new directions … then, of course, nothing is impossible for our developers. However, the particular future has not yet been determined.

As you kow Olympus filed many fast Full Frame lens patents. But it’s unclear yet if they have a serious intention to join the crowded Full Frame world…

No joke: The rotating earth(!) is limiting the E-MII stabilization to 6,5 stops

e-m11

As you know the new E-MII can do up to 6.5 stop image stabilization. But it looks like they did hit an unbreakable limit. At Amateur Photographer Setsuya Kataoka from Olympus reports:

The in-body stabilisation itself gives 5.5 steps, and the Sync IS gives 6.5 steps with OIS lenses. 6.5 stops is actually a theoretical limitation at the moment due to rotation of the earth interfering with gyro sensors.

Now it’s up to the Olympus engineers to slow down the earth spinning with the next E-M1markIII :)
