Finally available: On1 RAW 2023 with super innovative Mask AI and other cool features

You can finally download the band new ON1 RAW 2023 version (Click here). Here is the video showing one of the new features, the impressive Mask AI:

What’s New:

  • Super Select AI Tool — Applying adjustments to areas in your photos couldn’t be easier than the new Super Select AI Tool. Just tap on the areas you want to adjust and then pick an adjustment. Want the sky darker, click-click-done. How about making the grass more green, click-click-done. Want to blur the background? You get the idea. It’s an incredibly fast and natural way to work that will completely change the way you interact with your photos.
  • Mask AI — Say goodbye to tedious brushing. Mask AI uses state-of-art machine learning to segment photos, identifying objects like people and animals, as well as regions like the sky, mountains, trees, water, and ground. When masking layers, effects, or local adjustments, you can select subjects or regions from the list. Mask AI will create great-looking masks instantly. You can even choose regions to apply filters or adjustments to when you add them, making it easy to get just the adjustment you want.
  • AI Adaptive Presets — Presets just got even more powerful. Now they can target common subjects like people, water, skies, and buildings automatically. The awesome new AI Adaptive presets give you one-click solutions to tough problems like brightening the subject, darkening the sky, or adding detail to foliage. Best of all, you can create your own AI Adaptive presets.
  • Quick Mask AI — We’ve rebuilt the Quick Mask tool to make it faster and more intuitive. The AI segments the photo into regions and objects automatically. Then simply click on the segments you want to mask, and it builds a high-quality mask automatically, no brushing needed.
  • Tack Sharp — State-of-the-art sharpening and deblurring is now part of NoNoise AI, your single solution for removing noise and sharpening photos simultaneously. It can detect and remove motion blur as well as save out-of-focus shots. Stop throwing out the perfect shot just because it’s a little soft.
  • Keyword AI — No one likes adding keywords, but we do like finding our photos. Keyword AI in Browse uses AI semantics and metadata to suggest keywords for you automatically. It can see hundreds of objects and regions, identify locations, find people, and understand photographic properties. These all become searchable terms to help you find your photos faster.
  • Content-Aware Crop — If you have ever had to crop or level a photo and have lost important details near the edges, the new content-aware crop will be a lifesaver. It can expand the photo canvas and fill the new edges with realistic detail.
  • Improved Content-Aware Perfect Eraser — The Perfect Eraser, the perfect tool for removing larger distractions, has been improved with a more accurate algorithm and is faster on modern computers.
  • Improvements to Sky Swap AI — Leveraging the new Mask AI technology, we continue to improve the AI detection and masking of the sky. We have also added options for adjusting the angle of the sky and for better matching of edges like trees when going from a light to a dark sky. Plus, we have added 125 amazing new Ocudrone skies.
  • Improved Color Fringe Reduction — Determining the right amount of color fringe removal is a thing of the past. The new auto option detects the color fringe or chromatic aberrations and removes them automatically.
  • In-App Notifications — Learn about new courses, videos, and creative assets in the Learning Hub with new account in-app notifications.
  • Full-screen Preview of Presets — You can now get a huge, full-screen preview of a preset applied to your photo simply by mousing over the preset’s thumbnail. This makes shopping and selecting the right preset much faster.

Fortune interview: Olympus sold off its decades-old camera to focus on medical tech: ‘We had to move before it became too late’

Forbes interviewed the CEO from Olympus who said about the camera business:

“We had to move before it became too late and those businesses became obsolete,”

PetaPixel commented on this:

Takeuchi says that even though cameras were a huge part of Olympus’s brand identity, it was a requirement for the business to stay afloat. At the same time, he says that the cameras still had a right to exist and as such needed to find the right home.
“They have a right to survive business-wise and to have the right owner. It was unfortunate for them to have Olympus as their owner, and they can now have another future,” Takeuchi says.
It isn’t clear what part of Olympus’s camera division Takeuchi believed was at risk of becoming obsolete, especially considering that OM-Digital, the new name of the Olympus camera technology under Japan Industrial Partners, released a new camera earlier this year: the OM-1. That camera was quite impressive and PetaPixel’s Matt Williams went to far as to say it is the best Micro Four Thirds camera ever made. It is also the last camera that will bear the Olympus branding.

OM Digital interview: The business is improving!

Imaging Resource published an interview made with three OM Digital managers, Here are the highlights:

  • Our middle- and higher-end products: their situation is better than before under Olympus. So that means our business is generally improving, and our current business is going smoothly. I obviously can’t share too many details, but our current business seems to be good, especially thanks to the OM-1.
  • More new users are purchasing the OM-1, compared to the products in the past, people who maybe had used other brands before. When those people buy our OM-1, they also buy our PRO lenses as well. So the OM-1 contributed a lot to our PRO lens sales as well. So our current business is very good.
  • We also utilize outsourcing for some of the elements required for product development. The R&D resources owned by Olympus are one part of this outsourcing, and we work with them in that aspect as well.
  • Part of the Olympus factory in Vietnam has been transferred to us as an asset, and serves as a manufacturing site for OM Digital Solutions. Therefore, we are essentially manufacturing our own products in our own factory.
  • The OM-1 will be the last camera with the Olympus brand logo. Although we are currently considering brand changes for existing products such as lenses, we cannot provide any details at this moment.
  • According to our company’s surveys, it shows that the market volume of pro photographers and high-end amateurs has not changed. We believe that in the future, this market volume will not change significantly. So we are focusing on the mid- to high-range. That is our strategy.
  • Consumers have told us that they want a compact-sized lightweight camera system. So expanding the f/1.2 series isn’t as high a priority, because longer or wider lenses would be larger than the current ones.
  • We hope to leverage further advances in computational photography to allow high-quality images and greater photographic expression without relying on sensor size, so that customers who own full-frame cameras can also enjoy our camera systems.
