New release: Topaz Photo AI v3.1.0

Topaz released the new new Photo Ai 3.1.0 update (Click here). This release of Photo AI includes:

  • New Autopilot Suggestions. You can now take full control of Autopilot by opting in to provided suggestions. Autopilot will also now continue to suggest new enhancements to your image.
  • Smart Preview Rendering. Ever noticed Photo AI rendering when it didn’t need to, such as when zooming in or when adjusting a slider? No more of that! By intelligently rendering the preview only when required, this version of Photo AI feels snappier than ever before.
  • Huge Preview & Masking Optimizations. Optimizations under the hood make rendering, masking, and selection all much faster. You can now mask to your heart’s delight with performance that keeps up with your cursor. It’s so good that you’re going to want to try the Superpixel brush again.
  • Major Preserve Text quality improvements. You’re now going to get better text recovery results than before when upscaling – now even rivaling Gigapixel’s Text & Shapes model.
  • Major Face Recovery quality improvements. Dramatically improved results for face recovery when combined with other filters such as Adjust Lighting or Balance Color.

Japan: Digital camera market share First half of 2024

BCNranking shared the tip manufacturers share on the Japanese market:

Mirrorless system cameras: Sony 36%
Fixed lens cameras: Kodak 28.3%
DSLR system cameras: Canon 73.5%
Video cameras: DJI 45.2%
Action cameras: GoPro 40.2%
Interchangeable Lenses: Sigma 18.2%

A couple of interesting notes:

  • OM Digital is usually around the third place in terms of share. But BCN only mentioned the number one.
  • Kodak is taking the compact camera market by storm thanks ot their affordable cameras. Actually those are chinese made cameras with Kodak just selling their name to them.
  • DJI is leading the video segment mainly thanks to their new and excellent DJI Osmo 3

OM Digital should launch the PEN-FII on Kickstarter!

Many are calling for OM Digital to release a new PEN-F successor. But in many interviews OM Digital has made it clear that it has no plans yet to develop such a model. In past years we have seen OM Digital often release lukewarm products that represent minor improvements over the predecessor. OM Digital is a small company with few resources, and it seems to me that it is afraid to take risks that could jeopardize its entire business model.

But history has shown many times that to grow you need innovation and bold risks. Otherwise you only delay your own inevitable death. Small companies like Blackmagic and lately even Pentax (with its beautiful and popular Pentax 17 film camera) have found an unexpected path to growth and popularity.

I am therefore officially asking OM Digital to launch a Kickstarter project for the PEN-FII. Make your case to the public, ask them to fund this journey. Let’s see if there is a real demand for this model. But please include all the best technologies you can:

Make it a camera that is easy to use for content creators AND photographers. What do you think about this idea?
