Final Olympus E-M1II field report by Adrian Rohnfelder

Adrian Rohnfelder (Click here) published his Final Olympus E-M1II field report:

The M1 Mark II comes with a new 20.4 megapixel Live MOS sensor (not the sensor of the Pen F!) with a promise of a higher dynamic range. I wasn’t able to take pictures for comparison with the old M1 but I have the personal impression of indeed an improvement. Pictures of snowy mountains at backlit, of the unbelievable colours of Landmannalaugar, of the contrast of black lava and white snow all are clear and full of details.

The new Panasonic G85 (or G80 or G81) is now shipping for the first time

g85

Today the new G85/81/80 camera started to ship  out from vairous stores. Check out the in Stock status here:
G85 in USA at BHphoto. Adorama. Amazon.
G80-G81 in Europa at Amazon Germany, ParkCameras. WexUK.

Imaging Resource posted their final G85 conclusions:

The Panasonic GX85 truly does pack a whole lot of advanced features and performance into a compact, portable package, and all for a fair price. And while it’s not perfect (no camera is), it’s currently one of the best all-around Micro Four Thirds cameras on the market for those looking for a small yet powerful interchangeable lens camera. As such, we have no reservations recommending the Panasonic GX85 and awarding it a definite Dave’s Pick.

First 25mm f/1.2 PRO english review by Thomas: “high level of micro contrast gives the 3D pop”

Thomas from Cosyspeed (Click here) posted the first full Olympus 25mm f/1.2 PRO english review (the first overall review was posted by Mobile01). Thomas writes:

The OLY 25/1.2 has a certain magic and I would describe it’s special character in the way it closes the gap between a pronounced three dimensional look and the not so pronounced micro contrast. A high level of micro contrast gives the 3D pop to LEICA and ZEISS lenses, but it can be a harsh when shooting portraits. I don’t know how the OLYMPUS engineers made it, but they found a way to give it a lot of 3D pop while maintaining a portrait friendly level of micro contrast. Bokeh? Very smooth and elegant! Is it sharp? Yes, there is no need to stop down.

When comparing it with the cheaper and a bit slower Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 lens Cosyspeed writes:

The Pana/Leica 25/1.4 is an excellent lens but can’t keep up with the OLYMPUS 25/1.2. Even though it has it’s own character, it is not as clean and three dimensional.

This is a lens with a big “I want it” factor :) Get yours now at BHphoto, Adorama, Amazon, GetOlympus. Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, Amazon.es, while I am going to argue with my wife to get her buying approval…

Another shocking graph displays the camera industry collapse

You will find more statistics at Statista

If you look at that graph you wonder how Olympus and Panasonic can still make money on cameras. It’s really a depressing situation for the camera market! I guess what keeps both companies alive is that they have other bigger and healthy businesses. I am wondering how long more “photographic dependent” companies like Nikon will survive this.
