2 years ago |So if they sell off the old kits before Christmas, I guess there will be me kits arriving in January ….,..2013.
Seriously, I think the price reductions are because the GH2 is getting old and it is Xmas surely they will still offer the 14-140 kit as well as the new X lens kit. Personally I will be waiting for the GH3.

2 years ago |Wow, that’s an incredible price for the GH2. (And $800 for GH2 only!) So what does this mean? Is the GX1 actually going to cost MORE than the GH2 when it is released? That doesn’t make any sense to my brain unless a GH3 is coming sooner than Fall 2012.

2 years ago |I was just thinking the same thing…. GH2 and GX1 have different targets (although some do overlap) so it must mean that the GH3 is coming soon… Im really hoping for something big!
twoomy
2 years ago |Further fantasizing… It would be really cool to see a GH3 and a new 12-35mm released as a high-end kit in January!
And before anybody chastises me, I’m very happy with my current GH2. I know that a newer camera won’t make me a better photographer (blah blah blah), but it’s always nice to see new gear come out.

Wrong link and the kit lens is not 14-45mm rather 14-42mm and a price is also wrong.

2 years ago |The price drop of GH1 was yet more extreme, from 1500$ it dropped to 999$ (gradually),
Basically rendering panasonic equipment as bad investment

Agree with the other replies. You buy a camera to take photos. If you’re buying a camera as an investment, you should switch to gold bars or rare coins. EVERY camera is a bad investment.
Back in 2005, I bought the Nikon D2X for $5000. 3 years later, my camera top-of-the-line camera was barely worth $1400 used. Was that a bad investment? No, because I got 3 years of great photos out of it.

It is crazy that people here are always find negative things, even when there isn’t anything bad.
There is almost no digital equipment, which does not loose value quickly.

2 years ago |If you think cameras are ‘investments’ you really need to re-think your retirement portfolio. Cameras are more electronics goods now than anything else. Did you also invest in your IBM PC, your VHS player, your Walkman, your massive CRT tube TV, and your DVD recorder/player?

2 years ago |The GH2 is 13 month old. The GH3 is not that much overdue.
Besides, I wonder what more one would want. so far this year, we are looking at 3 lenses including the 1.4/25, 2 drooling bright zooms coming up soon, a long awaited GF1 legitimate replacement, all that in a very tragic year in Japan.
twoomy
2 years ago |Jules–I can’t think of much improvement I’d want over my GH2, except maybe a little less base noise, better DR, and maybe even some sort of built-in HDR function if it’s not just a gimmick.
jules
2 years ago |I think about the same with mine. Perfectly happy as it is. I would enjoy improvements on one big intangible : build quality. An improvement on the overall feel of robustness would be more than welcome.
For the rest, we can expect them to push the envelope a bit more left and right: DR, ISO, noise, FPS, action focus speed, etc. In that regard, I’d wait at least 2-3 releases before relegating my GH2 to a back up. Probably even more. It is really good enough for me right now.

2 years ago |It’s looking more like the GH3 will get previewed or maybe officially announced during PMA@CES in January (probably not available until April/May). Remember Panasonic is one of the 2012 Olympics sponsors. I’m sure they’re working hard to have their latest “flagship” model camera available by then.

2 years ago |$1199 is exactly what I paid for my GH1 two years ago. I have no use for the GX1 so a GH2 body is getting temping. On the other hand, would love to have that new Canon Pro1 printer.

2 years ago |It looks like there will be a lot of price cutting in the run up to Christmas. Looking at one UK dealer, Camera World, I see that there are cashback offers on some Canon dslrs, the price of the Fuji X100 has fallen and the prices of the Nikon 1 system have already begin to fall from the initial high levels. Digital cameras have never been a good investment.

2 years ago |Its still avail on BHPhoto. You just need to add to cart or click on the line that says “Click here to see price” below the published price of $999 and $1499. The discount is not shown otherwise.

2 years ago |New kits for the GH2 mean in my opinion that the GH3 is not going to be announced very soon. Or that it is announced soon, but not available soon. Pricedrop on the GF3 is probably because of incoming X lens kits, and not successor or pressure from other companies. Also given the fact that you can still buy lots of GF2. Funny also that many superstores still have GF2 and even more old Olympus for outrageous prices. But you can also be lucky: I got my GF1 in March with 14-45 for 300 €. But these chances are very rare.

2 years ago |I think the big price drops on GF2 a sign what an upgraded GF5 is on its way with G3 sensor otherwise no need to discount so much as already a best seller?
F3x
2 years ago |I don’t believe there’s so much cut to introduce new kit lenses. Either they are trying to move the GH2 as the GH3 is taking it’s place or they are getting really aggressive for Christmas as there’s more CSC options.

2 years ago |Fantastic deal especially with that lens! This is the cam of the year. (NEX5-Honorable Mention) I think its just a pre-Holidays deal and not necessarily a sign of the GH3 coming soon. I am looking forward to the GH3 just as much as everyone talking about the 5DMkIII next year.
