Panasonic GH1 firmware hack.

Pentax-Hack is working on a new Panasonic GH1 hack. Once installed your custom firmware on your GH1 you will be able to create new camera features. EOSHD noticed the “availability of both 50p and 60p no matter if the model is PAL / NTSC. ”
Important note: The project is still in development. There is no easy way to use the hack.
One more thing: You could also install Windows Vista on your GH1. Good luck with trojans and virus!

LOL
Windows Vista (along with Windows7) is one of the best protected OSes ever built on MS Windows platform. Just dummies can get trojans and/or viruses if UAC is enabled – unlike XP, where just limited acounts are protected.

However, the initial setting of region is done for the first time the Panasonic’s engineers installed the PCB, saved on its EEPROM or similar IC before shipment, Therefore, you have no chance of changing regional settings like language sets or PAL/NTSC recording format at all from a retail product, unless you are a Panasonic top-level engineer and you know how to reinitialize the EEPROM or PCB setting (the Service Manual does not mention it either), or replace with a new PCB.

Just look at Canon hacks and see how long it takes them from one to the other (and there is quite a big community there).
I wouldn’t put my hopes on a Panny hack…
I wonder where the Vista bomb dropped from.

2 years ago |So even the existing GH1 sensor has the potential to deliver 1080P/50/60 just a matter of providing the appropriate firmware if I understand this right? If this is so maybe the only plausible reason they have not done so yet is because no TV stations or rather TV sets are broadcasting or designed for 1080P/50-60? Is that not so.? So that is why the GH2 for now may not have 1080P/50-60 but maybe the pro GP1 will as used to create films?
As noted in the rumor it seems that 720P/ 24 at 28 Mbps would be an even better picture than 1080P/60 at 24 Mbps?
Reportedlly the 1080P/50-60 also would take a lot more memory space but then the manufactures want us to buy those expensive new high capacity cards.
Just my two bits but I am no expert

2 years ago |Video modes are hardware limitations in the GH1. There are bandwith limitations that prevent:
- Reading the sensor fast enough for 1080P 50/60
- Processing the 1080P 50/60 with the GH1-processor
- Saving 1080P 50/60 to the memory card with a useful comression level
None of these problems can be fixed with firmware updates, you’d need new hardware

we need custom firmware like the CHDK in Canon!
