Panasonic digital cameras are the most reliable!

FacebookShare

According to latest studies from SquareTradePanasonic is the most reliable camera brand. For both inexpensive cameras under $300 and more expensive models up to $500, Panasonic cameras failed at a substantially lower rate than other brands: 5.3 percent for the cheapies and just 1.9 percent for more expensive models, over the first two years of ownership. That’s well ahead of all competitors and, in the case of Panasonic’s higher-end cameras, better than the failure rate for ultra-pricey DSLR cameras.

They’d better be, because from user reports they have probably one of the worst customer services around.

OTOH Olympus has probably the best customer/technical repair services around and I can tell that by personal experience with an user liability repair being done under warranty in record time. I’ve also read some similar reports by other users.

The issues with the strap lugs and paint falling off the buttons are all over the forums so I would like to see how they’d rate at the over 500$ segment.

Even so, after getting a true feel for my GF1 after a few months, I feel like I found a company that doesn’t skimp on build material and one of the few Japanese camera companies left that actually build their camera’s in Japan versus china (casio and olympus). Never having to call panasonic for a repair, I cannot say much to that, but I guess time will tell.

My GH1 lug broke loose at the first month of my 6 month trip to asia, (i’m lucky its still in once pice)
The 14-140 lens barrel Zoom-rubber has expanded in its diameter and currently bigger then the lens! (i should get that adressed when i’m in thailand next month)
My camera gives me random “lens not attached” error,
And ofcurse the nano coating starts to peel-off at various parts of the camera after only 6 months use!

(my 14-140 IS unit started to hiss lately, i hope it wont pick up by the microphone, i’ll know that at the end of my trip)

Althou my TZ5 is very reliable and survived a few falls, even very nasty one from 1.5 meters dropped on a marvel floor with the lens open on the lens unit itself! i was in shock when the camera functions as normal, except for the lens cap dosnt close anymore.

I wish my GH1 would be of a similar quality as my TZ5, i invested 300$ in tz5 and spent 3k$ on my MFT gear.

Ros, it seems like you just got a bad copy. I feel sorry for your bad luck but in asia Panasonic has better reputation than sonicanikon in terms of build quality and reliability. You should get a replacement while your warranty is alive. Complaining about the defects in a website like this will not help you fix the problem. Warranty is there for this kind of situation.

  • I gotta agree with Duarte Bruno bout the Panasonic has probably one of the worst customer services around.

Latest studies? That SquareTrade document is dated 2010.
