Olympus US new instant rebates (E-P2 with lens and EVF for $814)
We just received a document which shows all Olympus instant rebates planned for October 2010 in US only. Download the document here: http://www.4shared.com/document/u2UTF8pc/Olympus_Oct_IR_Promotions.html. You can easily notice how deals are focused on current FourThirds cameras and lenses.
Anyway, in those weeks a lot of Panasonic and Olympus got discounts. This is a list of the most interesting camera/lenses with disocunts:
1) The newest deal is the E-P2 with 14-42mm lens and Electronic Viewfinder for $814 only at Amazon (Click here). The little sister, the black Olympus E-PL1 is in Stock for $509 only at Amazon (Click here)
.
2) Both Panasonic GF1 kits are in Stock for $660-670 at Amazon (Click here). That’s a $50-100 price drop compared to the price before Photokina. ANother good GF1 deal is available at BHphoto where they offer a free EVF with the GF1+14-45mm lens (Click here). P.S.: I do not expect a GF1 replacement till February.
3) The Panasonic GH1 with 14-140mm lens is still in Stock for $999 at Amazon (Click here). Let’s hope Vitaly can hack the new firmware as soon as possible because this is really a great deal! Keep in mind that you have to pay $500 more for the new GH2 with the same lens at Amazon (Click here)
4) The Panasonic G2 also gets a discount and is in Stock for $649 at Amazon (Click here).
5) The very good Olympus M ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Micro Four Thirds Lens is in Stock for $591 at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto
6) A non-m43 dela: Pansonic LX5 (Black and White model) are discounted at Amazon (Click here)

2 years ago |It would be pretty nice if the GF1 replacement had a built in EVF while keeping the low profile. What if they added an inch or so onto one end on the body. It’s fairly short, so adding length to the body without adding height might just find a sweet spot for the rangefinder fans. At this date, Panny certainly isn’t likely to adopt this approach if it’s not already in pre-production.

2 years ago |Meh… Not seeing anything I really want or need. An EP2 w/ 17mm & VF2 would be nice, but not for $1K. I’m thinking about a GF1 w/20mm…
It’ll be interesting to see what the actual prices turn out to be. I paid $770 for my 50-200 SWD from B&H at Xmas last year. I’d imagine this year the prices will be about the same…
Also, I found a new-in-box EP1 w/17mm & OVF on eBay for $499. Supposedly from an authorized dealer. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, though the Pannys still sounds more interesting…

2 years ago |I was hoping on a rebate on the 12-60mm swd…I guess they are selling still selling well. It would also be great to have a rebate on the FL50r.

2 years ago |Last time the rebates were going on I tried to get a 14-35. By the time I had my finances in a row (a week), B&H and Adorama had raised their retail prices to MSRP which made the price HIGHER than before the rebate!
It looks like thats the case again. The 14-35 is now $1999, when just a few days ago it was about $1900.
How’s that make any sense? Here come the rebates…and you pay more!

2 years ago |I really dislike the way that Olympus does their rebates. I’ve been buying Olympus gear for 6 years, and I’ve never successfully purchased any product by using a rebate because of the timing, or the rebate just doesn’t save money, or it is a bundle that includes something that I already have. I just can’t seem to sync my purchases with any of Olympus’ rebates.
I bought an EP2 in July with the 14-42. B&H did not have the EVF at the time, so I’ve been doing the best I can without the EVF. Man, it’s hard to use that camera without a viewfinder. Anyway, I would love to get a rebate on the EVF, but I’m sure I’ll have to pay close to retail for something that should be included in a camera (or at least throw in the optional vf1 OVF attachment, although it is of limited use).

2 years ago |Amen to that! Last time rebates where on like in April B&H had the Oly 14-35 for $1816 regular price, with the rebate it was $1516! I guess Oly came down on them and after a few days it was $2299/1999. Why have rebates if they only increase the sell price to the consumer!? Stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
Let the retailers duke it out. If they want to cut prices and sell a ton of inventory, that should be their call.
Basically, if Oly has rebates, customers should not buy. Wait till the market actually lowers prices on its own. Brilliant!
