Olympus US cash back action: Get money for your old camera to buy a new Olympus!
Olympus US just launched a new Cash Back action. And this time it is a particularly interesting offer! You can trade in your “old” camera (from every brand) and you will get cash to buy an Olympus camera.
But now the funniest part: They also created a Digital Camera Value Estimator that calculates the value of your camera!
I would never trade in my Olympus E-P1 but I still own an old Pentax K10D
. I used the estimator and Olympus US would give me $178.00 for it! To bad that I am located in Europe

Anyway, you would probably get more for your camera if you sell it on eBay
I guess it’s a good moment to shop for the Olympus E-PL1 ($519 on amazon) or the Olympus E-P2!

Not a very compelling program IMHO when eBay and other sites exist that reflect a true market price

2 years ago |There are a lot of laughs to be had from the ‘trade-in value’ calculator. For example, if you stick strictly with the choices (manufacturer ‘other’, no through-lens viewfinder, ’7 or more’ megapixels) you’ll find that a Leica M9 body in the original box would have NO trade-in value!
Thoughtlfully, the site offers to recycle such ‘worthless’ cameras for a fee calculated on a per-pound basis. Heck, if anybody wants to recycle an M9, I’ll do it for free!

2 years ago |While this may sound absurd, it’s actually something lots of people like. Just like millions of people who trade in cars for thousands less than they’re worth on the street. People just don’t like to hassel with the selling process. If they are offered an easy way to unload something for something new, they’ll do it. Otherwise they’ll either let it sit on a shelf or hand it down to someone. At least this removes the excuse “well I have an old camera that still works so I can’t buy a new one”. Instead now they can justify a new purchase by saying they “traided” their old camera for a new one. Just like many say, “oh, I traded my old car for this one” even though they lost thousands.

@JW Ahh the F30, an awesome little camera. I wish they had included I.S. and then it would have been nearly perfect back in the day
. Ohh, and SD card compatibility instead of XD!
