For the first time, I am jealous of Europe for having this awesome deal. I am saving up to buy myself an OMD. However, if they offer this deal, then I would buy it in a second, even if I have to go borrow money from someone, and choose the 45mm lens and battery deal. Admin, do you think this deal will come to the States eventually???
Yes, it’s a brilliant deal, but don’t forget it still cost £900 body only in UK, €1150 body only in Ireland… And of course: the deal is valid only with authorised dealers…
The advert itself is quite interesting. If you don’t know already that OM-D is a kind of camera you will have to look for hints to find out. There is no image of a camera. Neither is a camera mentioned in the text. The three monochromatic portraits on top would draw the attention of intellectual young women, which is another curious decision made by the designer. Young women are perhaps the least likely to use an E-M5. Perhaps someone at Olympus UK thinks they should?
So are you saying there were no pro female photographers in the 1970′s? I think that photographer Jane Bown would disagree as she was using Olympus SLRs like the Olympus OM-1 then and still is. Certainly was not put off by the so called ‘sharp edges’.
I think you are not so much walking on ‘thin ice’ as ‘cracking ice’ at the moment!
I’m not suggesting there were no female photographers in the 70′s. I’m merely making an observation on cultural perceptions in the west. I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. It was not intended.
I think you will find the advert is more to do with the fact that ‘this is what you could achieve photo wise with this camera’ than trying to attract more female buyers. The advert will appear to woman and men as well. Same as the camera already does.
More fuel for the fire that Olympus is pitching the E-M5 now more to the prosumer market and prepping the diehard enthusiasts and “pros” for the upcoming pro level body that will surely be announced this year.
E-M5 is the beginning of the new. Now that Olympus has had the beginning, let’s get on to the real deal and continue the unfinished business of 4/3 with today’s advancements in mirrorless.
When you consider that many very capable DSLR cameras such as the D7000 { £625} Sony A77 {£800} and Pentax K5II {£719} are often substantially cheaper even though the E-M5 sensor has closed the gap quite a bit the Sony APS 16mp sensor used in many even cheaper models { D5100 can be had for £340 !!} is still a little better.
The first two photos (left to right) are the types of subjects the owners of these cameras would like to shoot. The third photo, shown above the lens and grip themselves, are what the typical user is more likely to resemble.

Really? Why do you think that? A retro compact camera would seem to be a pretty good fit for a young woman.

4 months ago |Indeed it would and most are (like the PENs), but the E-M5 is distinctly masculine with its sharp edges and 70′s-professional air.
