Olympus E-P1 is the most popular camera in Japan (but not the most sold)
The japanese very popular website DC.watch.impress asked their readers to vote the best camera of the year. These are the results:
1. E-P1
2. 7D
3. K-7
4. GF1
5. K-x
6. D3s
7. GXR
8. E-P2
9. D300s
10. GH1
But real japanese sales rankings do show a different story. Take a look at the November 2009 sales rankings: http://bcnranking.jp/category/subcategory_0008_month.html.
Interesting or not? It seems that a lot of people like the “concept” of MicroFourThirds cameras but not so many of them are buying it…

The GF1 places twice in the top ten with the white and the black models being counted separately; they also show differential pricing. White is growing in popularity and has a higher price than the black model. The D5000 also places twice but one version appears to be with a kit zoom and the other version body only.

3 years ago |I think there’s a pricing problem : µ4/3 is great but way too expensive!
If Olympus and Panasonic were a little bit less pretentious, they would success. If they don’t cut the prices, there are very small chances fort µ4/3 to become the 21st century standard…

Once the m4/3 would get more single focal lengths , the success will come

3 years ago |Hm.. very strange. It does not take a scientist to understand that the GF1 absolutely is the best camera of the year in every aspect except for IS (but who needs it?!). I agree with “Yeah Yeah” that m4/3 is WAY to expensive! I would never consider buying a smaller camera at that price when I can get so much better image quality with a D5000 or a Pentax K-X for less money.
