New Oympus E-PL3/E-P3 and Panasonic GF3 reviews
Image on top: The new GF3 with 14-42mm X lens kit.
Photographyblog (Click here) posted a full Olympus E-PL3 review. Their final comment is a bit harsh: “The E-PL3 is an impressive and funky compact system camera, but third time around we were hoping, perhaps naively, for consolidation of past glories rather than throwing us, in a couple of key respects, something of a curveball.“. Get the E-PL3 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Imaging Resource (Click here) tested the Panasonic GF3: “The GF3′s quick autofocus means the camera’s more often ready to catch the action. Meanwhile, the gorgeous 3-inch LCD screen provides a crisp live preview and sharp playback of images. Love or hate the stripped down design of this camera, there’s no denying the Panasonic GF3 is one of the better CSC models on the market“. Get the GF3 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
ThePhoBlographer tested the Olympus E-P3 RAW image quality: “The Dynamic Range and Color Depth are indeed really, really good. The High ISO output is also better than it was previously. However, the camera still cannot match even the Canon 7D with straight out of camera noise reduction“. Get the E-P3 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.

2 years ago |Not sure if it was posted elsewhere, but there is a new grip for the EPL3: http://www.kleptography.com/rf/
Very very cool. Still bummed that Oly took the grip off the EPL3

2 years ago |What an ugly camera the GF3! Please panny designers, take a hint or two or maybe a hundred from the NEX-7. Or even better, the Contax G.

2 years ago |Have you seen or held one? Surprisingly, they’re really cute and small. all the curved edges make it feel even smaller. I’d like to see a pivoting LCD on it, like the EPL3.
I wouldn’t mind having one just for my 20mm or Voigtländer 35mm f1.4.
Don’t fret, Panasonic will release a rangefinder style eventually.
@onlyme… In the reviews are they using Auto white balance or are they setting it with a grey card? Setting the WB with a grey card makes a huge difference! You can also adjust the color balance on the Auto WB.
If you want, you can make the JPEGs as over saturated and cartoonish as you like.

2 years ago |Although, I don’t think that the GF3 is ugly, I think even an ugly camera with grip, is preferable over a slippery, metal body, which looks shiny, but is awkward to use.

2 years ago |The GF3 with new small kit zoom lens looked like something I might buy until I looked at some sample photos from the GF3. In my opinion Panasonic make the best designed cameras but their jpeg output is not very good, their colours are not appealing to me and I saw the same as the reviewer, “JPEGs have mediocre hue accuracy, with yellow-to-green shift”. Come on Panasonic, sort out your jpeg engine.

2 years ago |Yeah, I use a FL-360 on my GF1, and the results are 1000x better than the internal flash. Very bulky and inconvenient, though.
What Panny & Oly need to work on are some ultra-compact, E-TTL external flashes in the vein of the Canon Speedlite 270EX. Also, Panny needs to get on the ball and license Oly’s wireless flash protocols, because they need a wireless flash system to make a credible high end system.

2 years ago |You mean like the Olympus FL-300R? While it is a little stripped down in terms of functionality, it is on the small side. Obviously you lose the remote capability on Panasonic cameras.
