2 years ago |The site basically replaces the old https://emporium.olympus.com (which now forwards you to the new site). Like the emporium (or expensitorium as I used to call it), don’t look for bargins in the normal prices. The prices are always MSRP, and the rationale is if Olympus undercut the brick and mortar/high volume internet sellers, those places would stop stocking Olympus gear.
The accessories for older cameras have been moved to an archived section, and some of the accessories have now disappeared (E-1′s FS-1, FS-2, and whatever the LCD cover part number was).
Interestingly, all flashes seem to have disappeared (but not flash cables or the older flash bracket, but the two new brackets are gone). Olympus still seems to have the same fine level of detail in the site — a quick glance at the E-30 showed it had the E-300′s HLD-3 battery holder.
Another interesting deletion is the AV/PS-2 cable. This cable was needed if you wanted to tether your DSLR (other than E-1/E-3) to your computer as it provided both video and usb control (with Olympus tethering, you had to feed the video out into a framegrabber to see the image on the computer screen). Given that Olympus Studio had disappeared before the move to the new site, the Studio ‘replacement’ (Viewer-2) does not provide tethering support, the Pens not supporting tethering, obviously Olympus is hoping that people will just forget it ever offered tethered support.
As was reported on 43photo.com a few months ago, Olympus also stopped selling scuffed boxes and refurb gear through ebay.
