(FT3) UPDATED: Panasonic ready to release a special videocamera on July 28?
Sony just announced their new NEX-VG10 camcorder. And it will come with no surprise that latest rumors we received said that Panasonic will unveil a new “revolutionary” camcorder on July 28.
UPDATE: It is not the AG-AF100 and not the GH2!

3 years ago |Wow if that’s true then Panasonic has some trouble on their hands on the pricing for the AG-AF100. APS HD sensor, interchangeable lenses, and $2000 including the lens versus a 4/3 HD sensor with no lens for $6000! I think Panasonic was going after RED in their pricing, but unless their features are significantly better than the Sony camera, they’ll have an uphill battle trying to convince pro-sumers to buy Panasonic for the extra cash.

3 years ago |realistically, I believe the Panasonic product will be better, regardless of sensor size, the Sony might give better image quality due to this, however, they are both targeting different markets, which is why I believe the Panasonic will be better, and not due to its higher price. The Sony, targeting the consumer market has no 24p, or XLR inputs, which are features that consumer’s probably don’t care about, yet offer interchangeable lenses. Those who want or need interchangeable lenses are the sort of people that require 24p and XLR, which the panasonic offers.

What’s the difference? Just around 2.5EV stops…

3 years ago |I think Panasonic is basing this new camcordercamera on the HPX170 Camcorder which has a Leica Lens 28-368mm/f1.6-3.0 which is a 13X lens? My prediction this will be basically the same lens upgraded from the FZ20 with its big collapsing 35-450mm 13X /f2.8 lens but instead using a new 1/1.3″ BI CMOS HS sensor with HD1080/60P. With this sensor the lens could be a 28-370/f2.5-4.The question will be will it be in the old FZ20 body with new sensor or all new body concept like the rangefiner styleGF2 with swivel screen or more like the G10 (or old FZ20 body) only with its non interchangeable lens and a swivel screen?
Pany will still produce a smaller FZ45 retaining a 14mp CCD sensor for better still pictures and longer zoom range but not optimized for HD.
The advantage the Pany camcordercamera will have over the NEXcamcorder is that its lens will be much faster lens speed hence much faster and better AF. The new Pany camcordercamera will be much better than th FZ50 of several years ago because the lens retracts much further into the body when not in use so not as bulky to transport but will still be superzoom or small DSLR size overall.
I think this new model is what has been labeled the FZ100.

3 years ago |Please let it be comparable in price to the Sony and just as good, except it can do 24p. That Sony camera would be incredible if could do 24p. Come on Panasonic, show Sony how it’s done!

3 years ago |I’ve been using a pair of Panny DVX100b cams and, lately, my GH1.
I’m ready to fully transition to HD but need a cost-effective means.
Wonder if this mystery-cam will be “the one.”©
heh.
