Brief Panasonic-Olympus rumors summary (P.S.: Panasonic 3D camera?)
With all those rumors I don’t want my readers to get lost ![]()
It’s time for a brief rumors summary! The following roadmap is made based on rumors from good sources (and hopefully no mistakes that time):
Panasonic:
- July 21 Panasonic LX5, FX700, FZ100 (and probably more compacts) -> Keep an eye on the new LX5 sensor and the FZ100 video quality!
- July 28 The first Panasonic 3D videocamera will be released?
- Late August-early September Panasonic GH2, a second very compact MFT camera (a very special camera that many will like!) , new MFT lenses (14mm f/2.5, 100-300mm and more?) and the MFT camcorder.
Olympus:
- Mid September FourThirds camera (with special mount), new PEN (built-in EVF), many new MFT lenses (more about that in next posts)
Other interesting rumors/speculations:
- Early September Sigma and Tamron MFT lenses?
And there could be more cameras and lenses! So follow 43rumors and share your news/rumors via 43rumors@gmail.com
One more thing: If all works fine a new mirrorless website will go online next week…stay tuned!

2 years ago |What’s your FT# for the new PEN (with built-in EVF)?
Do you have any rumored specs on that camera and on the GH2?
admin
2 years ago |Hi Duarte! I am still trying to double (and triple) confirm the rumors I have. What I can say now is that it looks like the new GF2 (or whatever the name will be) should be the most interesting new camera. The Pen could be very similar to the current E-P2 (just a little bit higher). The GH2 will have 24Mbit/s and new sensor with slightly more Megapixels. But please remind what I said…I need to confirm those rumors (and other I have).

Sure! Thanks for the update!

2 years ago |The rumor says that a new very small m4/3 camera is coming from Pany in Aug/Sept. Pany has said they would make one smaller than GF1 but that is inconsistent with ADMIN claim it is the GF2 as including inbody EVF very likely to make that model a bit bigger if not chunkier? I think it will be the NEX and EPL! competition, not much larger about size of LX3 with on board flash and small 14/2,5 kit lens with option flash mounted high rez EVF.
Alternatively is it possible this new small m4/3camera is like the earlier rumored one with fixed zoom lens collapsing into camera body but possibly lessor lens speed?
For some reason you have omitted any reference to the earlier FZ45 replacement for the FZ35 or are you just assuming that is the FZ100. Most indications are the FZ100 indicates a larger sensor probably the new only to be used in the LX5 would seem very logical. I think both models are coming with FZ45 sticking to high resolving CDD sensor for photos while FZ100 geared to 24-140/f2-4 or larger superzoom larger lens.
I think that if your rumor of coming models is correct then both Pany and Oly are moving up the introductions of some of their new models a quarter earlier in response to the NEX success?

2 years ago |Hi Don! It is not inconsistent. The rumors I received do say that there will be a very small MFT (I don’t know the name yet) + the Panasonic patent has shown us a MFT camera (very similar to the GF1) with built-in EVF. It’s my opinion that Panasonic is preparing two compact MFT (one very small and one bigger with built-in EVF). But I only received rumors about the first camera. That’s why I said that even more cameras could be announced. I didn’t forget the FZ45 and the FZ35…that’s why I wrote “and more compact cameras”.
I don’t know if Oly will react to Sony…but Panasonic will!

2 years ago |Hi Admin! I agree with your latest opinion that there may be two m4/3 cameras in the works (besides the GH2). I think the small one with be with 14/f2.5 interchangeable lens or alternatively fixed collapsing small zoom lens while the GF2 may also be relatively small based on the patent as they could use a smaller screen in the middle reducing the height lower than GF1. I still think a fixed collapsing lens camera with4/3 sensor is possible as with shorter register distance and no lens flange using a simple shutter built into lens this camera would be thinner, smaller, and lighter than an interchangeable lens model with kit zoom. I can’t wait for these new models to arrive with hopefully new no gap low noise and high speed sensors.

2 years ago |that 3d camera was being demo’d at the Vistek show in Toronto in June… It was very cool! Had it running live, while you could see the output on a pany 3d tv with the glasses.

2 years ago |This is all pretty exciting news. Hope most of it comes true, but we’ll know soon enough. I won’t be able to afford any of it for a while, but it’s good to see the technology moving forward, and it’s good to see Panasonic acting with confidence in light of what are sure to be significant challenges from Sony, Canon, and Nikon.

2 years ago |Maybe the new GF2 with EVF will be small because it won’t have an LCD? I hardly ever use the LCD on my GH1- I wouldn’t miss it. Viewfinders help you get so much closer to the camera and the subject. Although please Panasonic can you improve the shadow contrast?
