AF-assist beam mod to E-PL1

ZappB created an AF-assist beam mod for the

Now he wants to teaming up with a manufacturer to produce these device. Contact him if you want to collaborate!
Well don ZappB!!!

2 years ago |Nice work ZappB! I hope Oly takes note of this and realizes:
1.) Strobe FA sucks.
2.) LED beam FA is the way to go.
3.) Consumers know the difference.
One of my few Oly UI complaints is the single FA on/off setting. I don’t mind a camera offering strobe FA, but I don’t ever want it to activate. As things stand now I have to flip that setting every time I attach or remove my strobe. An easy remedy would be two menu settings. Strobe FA on/off & Beam FA on/off…

2 years ago |this is what i have been looking for my e-620. if priced correctly, this will sell pretty well especially if they could make it a generic device. from what he says it can be used on any camera as he is only using the middle pin.
hope we could see this in the future, ebay perhaps?

2 years ago |Congrats to ZappB for showing the initiative and doing this, hope he does well with it.
I’ll say what many are thinking, though: Olympus, how can you have remained so tone deaf to this most basic of features in the year 2010? Having a flash go off in people’s faces before taking the pic is out of the stone ages and should be left there.
AF-assist beam should have been incorporated in the original E-P1/E-620 generation, many much less expensive compact cameras already had it. People notice such penny-pinching omissions. They also read them as a sign the cameramaker is behind the curve relative to their competition and move on.
A remedy in the next generation of E and E-P’s please.
