I heard from a source that two years ago OM Digital was investigating the possibility of developing a new type of camera with a different sensor size. One of those ideas centered on switching to medium format. Here is what the source told me:
There are engineering samples testing regarding a new line from OMDS.
The camera has a large stacked sensor in 4:3 ratio format. It looks like a medium format sensor.
It looks like OM picked up the unfinished medium format project in 2018 which was finally canceled by Olympus executives . The EM1X prototype body was originally designed for medium format.
My info came from two sources. OMDS and another tech person.
The new format is an on going project which I was told could be part of OM system product.
I don’t think this is going to be a final product. This is probably just part of a general investigation to see if there is a potential market for it.
