New Olympus 400mm f/4.0 MFT lens patent

Thre is a newly published patent application describing the specs of a new Olympus 400mm f/4.0 lens. It’s unclear if this lens will be produced at all.

I don’t knwo how reliable this source is but months ago OzRay reported on Dpreview forum:

After years of planning, development and testing, Olympus is considering cancelling the production of a 400mm f4 lens. This lens was going to be one of the most superlative lenses ever made by Olympus; however, after extensive surveying, it was discovered that it might only meet the needs of a very small minority.

I think the 400mm f/4.0 lens would be amazing for wildlife shooters!

We still have no reliable info about a possible new Panasonic camera announcement at Photokina. But we got this from a good source:

I heard that a further FW update for G9 and GH5(s) is work in progress. Maybe it will be announced at Photokina.

But I hope to see at least a new LX200 too :)

New June report: Mirrorless sales doing fine but the compact camera market is dying

CIPA just published their June shipment report. And yes, mirrorless shipments are still going well. Compared to June 2017 the number of mirrorless cameras raised by 20% and the overall value of these camera by 37%.

ON the downside DSLR sales decreased while compact sales plumbed further down to hell :)
