(FT5) Panasonic GH2 + lens announcement on September 21!

Share

The new Sony A33 has almost the same size as current Panasonic G2 and GH1 cameras.

Finally we received very good info from our reliable sources. Panasonic will announce the new Panasonic GH2 and new lenses on September 21 (probably at 6am London time). We previousely told you that there was a planned Panasonic press release on Augst 26. According to our good sources Panasonic postponed the announcement for the GH2!
We are now investigating the reason for the delay. We know that Panasonic new sensor development has taken more time than expected and that could be the main reason for the delay. Another reason could be the announcement of the Nikon D3100 and Sony A55 and A33 cameras. Maybe Panasonic wants to make some last minute changes…

We will tell you more about the GH2 as soon as we have bulletproof infos!

P.S.: Nikon had their press release today, Canon and Sony will have it next week. Olympus and Panasonic only by mid Spetember. Does that mean something?

Send your questions to Olympus and Panasonic!

Mirrorlessforum is currently collecting readers questions to Olympus and Panasonic: “Next month in Germany two big events will take place: The IFA in Berlin (September 3rd – 8th) and the photokina in Cologne (September 21st – 26th). All manufacturers will use these opportunities to present new products. Of course we will visit both events and will have interviews with product managers at Panasonic and Olympus.

(FT3) The E-P3 is coming?

Share

Above: A rendering of a possible E-P3 with built-in EVF (Not the real camera!)

According to rumors we received and according to the german magazine Photographie.de (a well known and reputable magazine) Olympus will soon announce the E-P3. The camera will be placed above the [shoplink 14830]Olympus E-P2[/shoplink] (better specs). It is very likely that it will use the new Panasonic 14 Megapixel sensor. There is a rumor about a built-in EVF that we can’t confirm yet.
It also seems that the E-P3 is NOT the MFT high-end model. That model will come in 2011. The E-P3 for example is not weather sealed :(

I ask our german readers if they can send me a scan of the Photographie magazine where they talk about that camera. Thanks!

P.S: Something personal…may you will not believe me but I am working on rumors from here:

It’s a nice place in the middle of nowhere (Tuscany). Internet connection (via UMTS) doesn’t work very well but I really needed to be in a place like this! I enjoy the silence and the sun, and I hope to be able to catch some nice rumor from here :)

The need for speed: Canon 50mm f/0.95 (Leica M-mount) and the Canon 50mm f/1.2 (Canon FD mount)

Canon 50mm f/0.95 M-mount
If you care about your money you will not spend more than $2.000 for the [shoplink 14972 ebay]Canon 50mm f/0.95 M-mount lens[/shoplink] manual focusing lens! Nevertheless there is a flickr group (with 576 members!) that has a nice picture collection. The name of the group is “Canon 50mm f/0.95 “Dream Lens”. You can find some image taken with MicroFourThirds cameras (like here for example with the E-PL1).
Now it’s time for a little bit of camera porn: See the lens attached on the Panasonic GH1 (Fredmiranda) and on the Olympus E-P1 (DChome).
You can get the lens [shoplink 14972 ebay]on eBay (click here to check out current auctions)[/shoplink]

Canon 50mm f/1.2 FD-mount
Canon FD mount lenses are generally high-quality and also cheap lenses. So don’t mind to use the [shoplink 14988 ebay]Canon 50mm f/1.2 FD-mount[/shoplink] on your MicroFourThirds camera! Some image samples are available here on dpreview forum or flickr.
And now again some cameraporn: The lens on the GF1 (Flickr), on the E-P1 (Rangefinderforum)

Cgarrard Photokina speculations…

Share

Cgarrard from Alphamountworld (which is no more a Sony website alone) posted his product predictions for Photokina. The list includes Olympus and Panasonic also:

Panasonic- Panasonic will likely be pretty quiet in comparison to the other makers at Photokina, yet could show us all one big surprise. Panasonic has released quite a bit of new products lately so I doubt they have much left in the pipeline to show us. It is doubtful however that Panasonic will not have at least some good juicy news to show at the worlds largest Photo event. I expect many more small compacts, possibly one big announcement of a finished product, or a hint a developing more 3D products as well. I think we’ll see a product ready to market for m4/3 cameras that will allow for 3D imaging (they recently announced development for the worlds first 3D lens for interchangeable cameras).

Olympus– I expect big news from Olympus. It has been a quiet volcano on its DSLR front for quite some time and I expect a big eruption of products with some seriously new innovation. Olympus typically never lie down without a fight and I can’t see them doing it now, especially with the momentum its Pen division has given the company. Many of its DSLR’s are due for replacement, and, it is time for Olympus to show the industry just how committed they will be to this segment. Olympus should be top two news of Photokina.

We from 43rumors do not agree with his Panasonic predictions (we believe Panasonic will release some very nice products) but I hope he is right about Olympus beeing the “top two news of Photokina”. I guess this depends a lot from the quality of the E-3 successor…
