a little bit of everything (Coca Cola uses the E-PL1 for the latest commercial in Malaysia)

Share

The commercial on top has been shot entirely with the Olympus E-PL1: “We initially considered using a [shoplink 15024]Canon 7D[/shoplink] but due to the weight factor, that idea was scrapped early in pre-production. We also tested the GoPro HD and ContourHd but the results were not good enough for broadcast.
I suggested we use the [shoplink 14832]Olympus Pen E-PL1[/shoplink] due to its small form-factor and decent image quality, After some testing, we decided that it produced good enough results for the commercial.

The E-PL1 is currently discounted in many stores (because of the E-PL2 release). Check price at[shopcountry 14832].

Dpreview posts the Panasonic GH2 in depth review (+in Stock at Adorama)

Share
[shoplink 16254][/shoplink]

Hurry! Read the whole Panasonic GH2 review at Dpreview (Click here): “The GH2 might not be a revolutionary development (in all essential points it is very closely related to its predecessor, the GH1) but we’re confident in saying that it is the best mirrorless system camera that we’ve ever tested, bar none. With the GH2 Panasonic has finally demonstrated that it is able to compete with the APS-C format competition when it comes both to resolution and critical image quality. Although the GH2’s Micro Four Thirds sensor is smaller than those found in cameras like the Canon EOS 60D and Nikon D7000, it runs them both pretty close. Up to ISO 3200 in fact, we’d stick our necks out and say that the GH2 can hold its own against any of the current crop of APS-C format cameras on the market, which is high praise indeed.

The GH2 earned an overall score of 79% (which is pretty high!). It has the highest movie quality of all cameras ever tested on Dpreview. Only the [shoplink 21101]Nikon D7000[/shoplink] has one little point more (80%).

You can get the Panasonic GH2 at [shopcountry 16254] (Just click on shop name to directly visit the GH2 page). And for our US readers, it is in Stock at Adorama (Click here)!

New Olympus E-PL2, 9-18mm and Panasonic GH2 reviews.

Share
[shoplink 14818][/shoplink]

Photographyblog (Click here) reviewed the Olympus 9-18mm f/4-5.6 lens: “Its sharpness is pretty good for its class throughout most of its zoom range, with only the extreme borders being somewhat soft for our tastes at the shortest focal length of 9mm. The essential absence of corner shading / vignetting at all focal lengths is impressive, and the close-up performance is also surprisingly good for a lens this wide. All is not rosy though, with chromatic aberrations in particular being too high, even by ultra-wide standards.”

Lori Grunin from CNET (Click here) testet the Olympus 9-18mm lens: “A great interchangeable-lens model if you’re looking for better photo quality and/or a more advanced feature set than your current point-and-shoot offers, the Olympus PEN E-PL2 still doesn’t satisfy for photographing active kids and pets.

Neocamera (Click here) posted a short Panasonic GH2 review: “The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is a full-featured Micro Four-Thirds SLD which delivers good image quality and a generally solid performance. Image quality is characterized by low noise, good retention of details, excellent metering and nice colors. White-balance performance is the main weakness of the GH2, although the custom white-balance feature gets around this with some discipline. The camera is quite responsive and stands out by its relatively fast contrast-detect autofocus system.”

An epic battle: Panasonic AG-F100 vs Sony NEX-FS10! (Where is the 12-50mm lens?)

Share

With the Micro Four Thirds [shoplink 16841]AG-AF100[/shoplink] Panasonic delivered a potential almost perfect video camera for low-budget productions. Today Sony announced the “NEX version“! It has the same price ($4.500) and very similar features. Read the specs at SonyAlphaRumors.com. The main advantage of the AG-AF100 is the wider range of m43 lenses and the availability of the dedicated 14-140mm video lens. But the battle started and I hope this will shake up Panasonic. We want the 12-50mm f/2.5-3.3 lens now and not in a year! Some of my source can tell me WHY the lens release has been postponed? Thanks!

A new reworked Rodenstock f/0.75 from jjeying

[shoplink 21082 ebay][/shoplink]

The eBay reseller “[shoplink 21082 ebay]jieying-usa[/shoplink]” made the second reworked Rodenstock 50mm f/0.75 for Micro Four Thirds (he already made one lens a few months ago). It fits on your camera without the need of an adapter. The lens focuses from 3ft to infinity. Wide open, images are very soft but unlike C-mount lenses the circle covers the full m43 size. You can see a few image samples on Flickr.

Competition rumors: New Sony and Nikon mirrorless cameras on April 4th. How will m43 compete?

Share

A few days ago we told you that Panasonic will announce their new m43 products on late April and Olympus on late May. But before that we will see new mirrorless products from Sony and Nikon. Both should announce their new cameras on April 4th. The Sony NEX-C3 should be pretty unspectacular (a warmed up [shoplink 21021]NEX-3[/shoplink]) and Nikon will announce their Nikon Coolpix PRO system (a 2.5 crop system?).

Competition is becoming bigger and bigger (Pentax will announce their system in May). We will have mirrorless system with smaller than m43 sensors and larger than m43 sensors. This brings me to a simple question. How can m43 compete with other systems? They won’t have the smallest camera-lens system (Nikon, Pentax) and neither the best Image quality (Sony). So what features will be crucial to strengthen the m43 system?

A few ideas:
– More lenses, lenses and lenses!
– Less redundant camera range
– Bring real improvements for every new product (Don’t cheat us!).
– Connectivity with social networks for low end models
– APP store for m43 software.
– Make an ultra-small camera and an ultra resistant high-end camera
– Hybrid Viewfinder based on the Fuji X100 and Contax G2 technology (that system was able to adapt the OVF depending on the used prime lens!). See the camera on [shoplink 21069]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. Archieve that and you will see even more crazy eBay auctions than the one ongoing for the X100 on [shoplink 19929 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]…They are all priced over $2000!!!

Do you have some more?
