Share

As you know DSLRmagazine (Click here) tonight posted the first review 12-35mm X lens review. This post where I will sum all links and test I can found on the web!

Preorders
UPDATE: You can preorder the lens at Amazon (Click here)
The japanese shop Kitamura will ship the lens on June 21th.

Most interesting info:
It has Power OIS but no Powerzoom. Costs 1100 Euro or 999 pounds and be avilable in June. It’s almost half the price of a comparable FF lens like the [shoplink 31079 ebay]Nikon 24-70mm (Click here)[/shoplink]. Dpreview writes: “This impression of a quality product is reinforced by the wonderfully-smooth zoom ring action, that rivals Canon and Nikon’s top-end lenses for its silkiness of operation.

HOT! Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 lens gets reviewed at DSLRmagazine! Price around 1100 Euro!

Share

UPDATE: You can preorder the lens at Amazon (Click here)

So it was true! Panasonic has indeed an announcement for the May 21th! You can already read the first lens review at Dslrmagazine.com (Click here) and Click here for the google english translation. A f/2.8 24.70mm lens (in FullFrame terms) that is half the size of a Canon 24-70mm (Click here) or [shoplink 31079 ebay]Nikon 24-70mm (Click here)[/shoplink]!!!
As Valentin Sama writes this lens is weather sealed and hints that “a future body also sealed, and with high performance is coming before Photokina“…..his own words!

Lens performance:
RAW files have a very high resolution in center and corners, with a peak in at f/8. But already wide open the lens can deliver a “full performance”. The center has complete absence of chromatic aberrations, and it’s only very discrete in the corners, where there is also a bit of astigmatism. Vignetting is present at f/2.8 only (but nothing to worry about). It has very low distortion (which is easy to correct in PS). And here are some image samples: one, two and three.

In short, according to Valentin that lens sets a new level of quality for all mirrorless zoom lenses. It almost has no flaws. The price will be around 1.100 Euro (I guess this means 1,200 in Dollars). That’s I keep checking Amazon (Click here) but there is no preorder at the moment of writing this. Meantime answer this:

Will you buy the lens?

A triple lens review and a nice GF5 test video!

Share

Our french friends from Hybridcams got their hands on the new Panasonic GF5 and shot that video in Paris. It’s really a great cam, but as I said yesterday I don’t know if it can compete against the cheap [shoplink 23109]GF3[/shoplink] or cheap PEN entry cameras (like the list of cameras I posted here at the bottom). Anyway, the GF5 is now arriving in US and European stores. Preorder search links: [shopcountry 30485] (Could not be listed in some stores).

No camera is good without a good lens. And here is a new triple lens review about three (Micro-) Four Thirds zoom lenses:
Panasonic 14-140mm lens review at ePhotozine (Click here).
Olympus 75.300mm lens review at Photoreview (Click here).
Olympus Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ED (FourThirds!) Lens Review at Photoreview (Click here).

And here are some nice refurbished Olympus cameras at Olympusmarket. As usual keep in mind that European citizen only can buy the stuff:

E-M5 reviews and new leather case.

Share
[shoplink 31035 ebay][/shoplink]

Now Asian companies are starting to release more and more new E-M5 accessories. What you see on top is the new hand made E-M5 leather case made by Worldseller ([shoplink 31035 ebay]Click here to check the auction on eBay)[/shoplink]. It’s a bit expensive. A new much cheaper leather case has been made by Jieseker ([shoplink 31036 ebay]Click here to check the auction on eBay)[/shoplink].

And here is a triple new E-M5 review:
DCresource (Click here) published the full E-M5 review: “Overall, the Olympus OM-D EM-5 is an excellent Micro Four Thirds camera, assuming that you can survive with the less-than-stellar ergonomics“. Actually it’s the first reviewer compalining about the camera ergonomy!
The Canadian website Hereshow (Click here) posted an E-M5 review: “Granted, this camera is more expensive, but the EVF is built-in; it’s not an extra cost accessory. The classy E-M5 is one of the most desirable Compact System Cameras. With its SLR-like controls, speed and feature set, it would be a fine choice for photo enthusiasts.
Macworld (Click here) doesn’t test Mac stuff only but also the E-M5: “Olympus has been a leader in the Compact System Camera revolution, and the OM-D E-M5 will solidify that position. It is a good-looking, well-designed, highly capable camera. I recommend the 12-50 mm zoom lens with the body, which currently lists for $1300 for the kit.

E-M5 orders (Click on the names of the stores to see the product page):

GF3 with 14mm pancake lens for $314. Less than the LX5 :)

Share

We were just talking about the new GF5 coming to Europe and USA that one of our readers noticed that super Gold box deal where you can get the GF3 with the superb 14mm pancake for $314 at Amazon (Click here to grab it!!!). That’s a lot less than what you pay for a high end compact camera with tiny sensor like the LX5 ($360 at Amazon).

One more news and deal: ePhotozine (Click here) reviewed the 45-200mm Panasonic lens. It’s a pretty decent lens if you consider that you can get it for $199 again at Amazon (Click here).

GF5 is now shipping to Europe and USA…

Share

Oh, I didn’t forget that little sexy new Panasonic GF5 :)  The camera just shipped to first Europea and American stores. The picture on top is from the dutch store FotoHansKeuzakamp. The body only is priced at 621 Euro at Amazon France. It’s a nice cameras but I feel like the recent GF3 price drops may will make it hard to justify the extra price you have to pay for the GF5. For example the GF3 body only costs a little over 300 Euro here a Digitech on [shoplink 31026 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and with the 14-42mm lens 379 Euro again on [shoplink 31027 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. And we Europeans as usual will get even more frustrated when checking the USA price of the GF3: You cna get the body for $249 only (180 Euro!) in [shoplink 31030 ebay]Black (Click here)[/shoplink], [shoplink 31029 ebay]White (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 31028 ebay]Red (Click here)[/shoplink].

(FT5) New Olympus teaser for the upcoming 75mm portrait lens!

Share

Olympus is sending out a new teaser! After the weird nuts(LOL) for the new Tough camera (Click here)…..Techradar got the message you see here on top of this post! Obviously this is for the new 75mm f/1.8 portrait lens. The lens will be announced within the next weeks (and don’t forget that there is a Panasonic announcement too!).

The lens is said to have the highest image quality of all current Micro Four Thirds lenses. It is not weather sealed and if according to some unconfirmed rumors it should cost $799. That’s a lot less than comparable Full Frame lenses like the [shoplink 30743]Canon 135mm f/2.0 (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 30744]Nikon 135mm f/2.0 (Click here)[/shoplink]. Only the 85mm Canon f/1.8 (here at Amazon) and the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 (here at Amazon) are cheaper but also have an older design and are not as long as the Olympus (127.5mm on an APSC camera).

I know I already posted a similar poll months ago. But now we have some more info about the lens price and quality. So I ask you again:

If the 75mm f/1.8 lens really has the best image quality and costs $799 (or 699 Euro). Will you buy it?

One more thing. I don’t know yet if the 60mm f/2.8 macro will also be announced along the 75mm lens!

Rumors classification explained (FT= FourThirds):
FT1=1-20% chance the rumor is correct
FT2=21-40% chance the rumor is correct
FT3=41-60% chance the rumor is correct
FT4=61-80% chance the rumor is correct
FT5=81-99% chance the rumor is correct
