Tyson:I’ve been putting this together for a while now and got the first part of it done.  It is a gear post about losing weight through the mirrorless systems (m4/3 primarily) when preparing for a backpacking trip.  In the next part I’m going to focus on capturing techniques and then the final will be processing panos and hdr landscape shots using the micro 4/3 cams and lenses. http://tysonrobichaudphotography.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/the-mirrorless-diet-how-to-lose-weight-instantly-part-1/

Julien:Hey there! We always love to create short stories for the art and having recently returned on vacation and writing a lot, we wanted to share the freedom one enjoys while writing. Hope you like!

Romansu:The Tall Ships Races 2013 in the Riga. Shot on Panasonic GH2 with Panasonic lenses 14-140mm, 7-14mm, 100-300mm. https://vimeo.com/71849951

Matt:We’re based in Victoria, BC, Canada . Everything on our site is shot with the Olympus OM-D and E-5 http://www.evenstarphotography.ca/cara-andy-wedding/

Jurek:Wanted to share with you a five minute spoof video shot with a GH2 and the SLR Magic 25mm Hyperprime CINE, hand-held. The project came about quite spontaneously, hence the on-camera sound. But it’s audible. Personally, I’m extremely happy with what the lens puts out, and notice especially how well the red shirt is taken, red being a real issue for digital cameras. http://vimeo.com/72155683

Graham:I use m4/3 for my underwater photography, and recently had my photos published in the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2391373/Incredible-moment-shark-whisperer-hypnotises-deadly-shark-15-minutes-gentle-nose-rub.html. These were taken with my Olympus E-PL1 and housing setup! I thought it might be interesting news for you to share. Cheers!

Bernard:I made a small comparison between lens : 4/3 : zoom 12-60 f/2.8-3.5  (HG lens, not SHG) micro-4/3 : 17mm, 45mm. Plus, pictures from the 50-200 Zoom + EC-20 : gives a 400mm (800 mm equiv 24×36). http://mailhol.com/photo/compar-43

New GX7 test roundup and a “mysterious” contest by Damian McGilliCuddy.

Panasonic LUMIX GX7 Shooting Impression by Bernie DeChant

Before to catch up with some GX7 news here is something strange: Damian Mc Gillicuddy (Click here) launched an intriguing competition. You can win “something” that they can’t say what it is. All they can say is the winner needs an up to date passport and ready to travel sometime after 1st September. Open to anyone though we won’t pay air fares for people out of the UK. My guess is that it’s related to the E-M1 launch…

GX7 news:

Giulio Sciorio posted part two of the ongoing GX7 review at SmallcameraBigpicture:

Cutting through the tech jargon, what you get is a cleaner image and more dynamic range at every ISO which is to be expected when you get a next gen camera. Personally I was not expecting this tech to come until we see the GH3MKII but hey I’m not complaining!

Full GX7 review at Pocket-Lint:

The Lumix GX7 is the package deal. It’s bursting with features, it’s a pleasure to use and it produces some excellent shots. Pro-spec features such as a 1/8000th sec maximum shutter speed and that tilt-angle viewfinder further bolster the package deal that, straight of of the box, is unlike anything else out there on the market.

E-P5 and GH3 win Eisa award (yes, the one prize where everybody wins).

Share

I got multiple mails from readers pointing me to the Eisa award 2013-2014 announcement. The E-P5 and the GH3 won a prize. But as I repeat every year, with full respect to the Eisa community…these prices always look like a bit “made up” so that every company gets at least one prize. While both the E-P5 and Gh3 certainly are well made cameras it’s hard to take these prize very seriously.

Anyway, here are the “winners” for each category:

E-M1 price same as the Canon 6D.

[shoplink 41047 ebay]

[/shoplink] I know we are comparing apple and oranges here. While the 6D has the FF sensor advantage the soon to be announced E-M1 has many superior features. But right now you can grab the 6D for the same rumored price of the E-M1….$1499 at [shoplink 41047 ebay]BigValue on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

So my question to you is:

Do you feel the E-M1 could be overpriced?

(FT5) High End OMD E-M1 has “modified” E-M5 sensor without Anti Aliasing filter.

Share

I can now confirm that the new High End OMD uses a modified E-M5 sensor. It has 16 megapixel but has on sensor PDAF and no Anti Aliasing filter. Along the new Processor this allows to achieve an improved image quality over the [shoplink 29074]Olympus E-M5[/shoplink].

I have been told this is a great camera with one issue only that is shared with the E-P5. Price could be too high (around $1500 or 1500 Euro).
