E-M1 Amazon arrival info. And camera video quality may be improved via firmware update.

EM1 lens comparison made by our reader Ziv (Thanks!).

I got these two news via 43rumors mail:

Anonymous:I had a talk with Olympus representative at XXXXX today where they were showcasing the em1. I asked about video framerate issue. He said that they are working on it and if possible, other framerates are being made available via firmware update. If not possible, it will be handled by introducing a new product version. I dont know if that means em6 or em1 mark II or what.
Let’s hope it’s…possible!

(FT5) Olympus mini OMD coming on October 29!

Share

The mini OMD looking fixed zoom lens camera will be announced on October 29. I am yet not 100% sure about the sensor size but it should be 1/1.7 inch like the one used by the current Olympus XZ series. I call it mini OMD because it will look like a small OMD (and yes it has a built-in EVF in the middle). Reminder: The Panasonic Gm1 and 12-32mm announcement will happen next week on October 17 at 5-6am London time.

message to sources: The last two weeks I got many rumors about the next MFT lenses, fixed lens large sensor camera and Panasonic cameras in 2014. Thanks you all for the messages. Only want to ask you to be patient. I am trying to triple check the info I get to avoid to post false or partially incorrect rumors. Just to say that I got your rumors :)

Curious E-M1 sensor picture and first Olympus 12-40mm review.

Share

The picture on top os of the OM-D E-M1 sensor, and the area in the middle is the phase detection area (seen with the lines). It’s part of the full E-M1 review article posted on ePhotozine (Click here). The camera earned their “Highly Recommended” award

As the first Micro Four Thirds camera with no Anti-Aliasing filter, this means this camera should be, and thankfully is capable of the highest quality photos of any Micro Four Thirds camera, and when used with high quality prime lenses, the difference can be seen, although is quite subtle at times, with the previous model, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 already providing very sharp and detailed photos with prime lenses.

Also the Australian guys from Photoreview tested the E-M1 (Click here for the article) and the 12-40mm lens (Click here for the article). They also like the E-M1 a lot and this is what they write about the lens:

The 12-40mm f/2.8 lens is an impressive performer, delivering quality that rivals that of many DSLR+fast zoom pairings that target serious enthusiast photographers. But its great advantage is being able to do this in a more compact, lighter-weight unit. Fast focusing and near-silent AF operation also make this lens attractive.

New Panasonic MFT camera patent (it is not the GM1)

Share

Egami spotted a new Panasonic patent showing a yet unseen MFT camera design. I asked my sources and they said this is definitely NOT the GM1 design. Nevertheless this could be one of the next cameras to come in 2014. It has built-in EVF right in the middle of the camera. It could be a new Panasonic GX camera variation?

Reminder: All newest Panasonic MFT cameras got a discount in USA:
GX7 got $100 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto.
GH3 got $200 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto. A special mention goes to Samys because they also give you a Lowepro case, 32GB SD and a $50 gift card for free!
G6 got $100 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto.

New SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 lens announced

Share

SLRmagic just announced a new MFT lens. Here is the press text:

——–

Hong Kong, China (Oct 8, 2013) – The SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 w/ Gear is a mechanical upgrade over the original SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 with optional lens gear. Due to popular request for the optional lens gear we have redesigned the mechanical design to better suit cinema needs and to match the design concept of the current SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 25mm T0.95, SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE II 35mm T0.95, and SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 CINE II. There is no change in optical design.

The field of view of this HyperPrime Lens corresponds to a 24mm lens in 35mm format and this ultra fast wide angle of view opens up many new creative composition opportunities, particularly in the fields of interior, architectural and landscape cinematography and photography. Additionally, an ultra fast max aperture of T1.6 makes the SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 w/ Gear is ideal for available-light photography.

We place our highest priority in the development of all HyperPrime lenses to fulfill the demands of professional cinematographers and photographers. The design and build of the SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 w/ Gear is solid and reliable.

The SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 w/ Gear will be available from authorized SLR Magic dealers end November 2013.

Upgrade program details: Owners of the original SLR Magic 12mm F1.6 (Not SLR Magic CINE 12mm T1.6) may send in their lens (regardless of user condition) to Hong Kong + $250 to upgrade their lens to the SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 12mm T1.6 w/ Gear by contacting support@slrmagic.com.
