The triple Leica MFT lens comparison by Giulio Sciorio.

You saw them separately before but never all them together in one comparison shot. The picture has been taken by Giuglio Sciorio. You see the Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 (coming early 2014), the current 25mm f/1.4 and the 15mm f/1.7 lens  (coming 2014). You can see more pictures including an 35-100mm image at Smallcamerabigpicture.com where he posted a Lumix PPE Report. This is what he writes about the new Nocticron lens:

Metal, glass and built to last – It’s a very well made lens with a feel that is all Leica. Because of all the metal and glass its not a light lens. That said it’s not very heavy but it has heft. The aperture ring is smooth and easy to operate and the aperture itself is very round. I did not count how many blades make up the aperture but I am expecting some very nice bokeh. The Leica 42.5/1.2 is a new level of premium glass for the Micro 4/3 system so don’t expect it to be inexpensive. This is a pro grade lens all the way and like all Leica glass any aberrations are corrected optically not through firmware so expect this lens to perform well on both Lumix and Olympus bodies.

Thanks Giulio!

Funny running GH3 rig picture :)

Share

BHphoto (Click here) published that funny picture of a running GH3 rig combo :)
That said the rest of the article about the art of Shooting Video with the Panasonic GH3 is a must read!

And if you speak German read the article about “Professionelle Kinoproduktion mit Lumix GH3” at Photoscala (Click here).

Jack:  “today CreativeLive will host a live presentation about using GH3 with John Greengo: http://www.creativelive.com/courses/fast-start-panasonic-gh-3-john-greengo. I’m really looking forward to what this guy has to say.  He’s more of a traditional photographer.  He has done a session like this with E-M5 before.

Blackmagic Camera v1.5 released (Adds lossless DNG RAW support)

Share

Image of the Pocket camera with RAW(!). Thanks Rinaldo Lima for the pic!

Blackmagic Camera v1.5 has just been released. You can download it here: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support

Kristian Lam from Blackmagic writes:

This update adds lossless CinemaDNG RAW support to the Pocket Cinema Camera. We recommend the Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB SD card if you’re going to be recording RAW.
The lossless CinemaDNG RAW will work in DaVinci Resolve and applications from Adobe like Photoshop and Lightroom. However, the Preview and Quick Look feature in OS X is not compatible and you will not see a proper image. This has been reported to Apple. Hopefully, they will have an update that will address this.

P.S.: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema orders in USA at Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and in Germany at Technikdirekt, in France at pbs-video. In Sweden at macoteket.

This could be Panasonic’s the new GH4 Four Thirds 4K sensor!

Share

via Image sensor world.

Panasonic Japan released a pdf file (download here) describing the features of a new 4K Four Thirds sensor with 16,4 Megapixel! Panasonic claims that this will be the lowest noise sensor on the market! Note, this isn’t the organic sensor they developed with Fuji. For that you will have to wait til 2015.

As you know two weeks ago we published the full GH4 camera specs and this could be the real GH4 sensor. Panasonic is likely to release the camera within the first half of 2014.

Here are the full sensor specs:

Impressive!

As I told you before the GH4 has a “partial” modular system. Some parts of the camera can be upgraded in time. The camera is placed well above the GH3 and will NOT replace it. Here are the specs I got from one of my sources:

Panasonic GH4
16mp
1/8000 shutter
1mil dot OLED screen
21mm OLED viewfinder, 3,000+ dot.
Time code
200mbps mp4 All-i/100mbps IPB
4k/30p
4:2:2 10/8bit output
3G-SDI and XLR adaptor (An adaptor that the camera sits on with XLR x2, HD-SDI x4)
Price: €2799

Overall it sounds likt we don’t have to wait til Photokina in September to get soem great new stuff. Also Olympus is set to release a great MFT camera already in February!

New E-M1 reviews…

Share

Time to catch up with some E-M1 news. First of all on top you can see a funny Nikon D4 vs Olympus E-M1 video comparison :)

Full E-M1 review at Digitalversus:

It’s hard to find fault with the Olympus OM-D E-M1. With enhanced picture quality, a speedier autofocus, a nice wide viewfinder, a 10 fps burst mode and an all-weather finish, the E-M1 has plenty of qualities to win over enthusiasts and pros. Olympus has managed to build an excellent compact system camera that’s smaller and lighter than an SLR but still offers first-rate responsiveness and excellent picture quality.

Diglloyd is also testing the camera and writes:

But shooting it for a while, I soon found that the fun factor and efficiency factors are so superior to the Leica M Typ 240 that I was loathe to put it away. Not the least of which is vastly superior EVF, which makes the Leica VF-2 look like a dull and blurred child’s game gadget.
