RUMOR: Definitely more new MFT camera(s) coming in 2022

We are now used with very long periods without new MFT camera announcements. Some of you were worried that after the big OM-1 and GH6 launch we might have entered a very slow and boring period. But today I am here to tell you that I am now 100% certain there will be new MFT camera announcements in 2022. I am working to get the details about those models, but if the GH6 and OM-1 are too expensive for you, than wait for what’s coming next!

Here is the video about it (please subscribe the new youtube channel).

OM 100mm f/2.8 Macro IS patent

Back in September the latest OM Digital Lens roadmap teased the launch of a new “macro” lens in the 100mm range. Asobinet just spotted the patent of this lens: It’s a 100mm f/2.8 macro:

I am pretty sure this lens will be released this year!

Panasonic working on phase detection AF for future models, and new MFT lenses are coming too.

Preorders: GH6 at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama. In EU at Fotokoch DE, Calumet DE, Foto Erhardt DE. WexUK, Park UK.

Newsshooter talked to Panasonic manager Yosuke Yamane. A couple of key points he made:

  • Although the full-frame market is expanding as many companies enter the full-frame mirrorless market, we expect the demand for MFTS, which has unique characteristics, to remain firm.
  • I believe that creators will find value in these characteristics of M4/3, and I expect that demand will exceed a certain level in 2022.
  • LUMIX continues to explore the possibilities of all methods, including Phase Detection AF.
  • In the future, we are developing a M4/3 lens that can capture more impressive scenes with the GH6, so please look forward to it.

He also has been interviewed by Amateur Photographer:

  • it wasn’t possible to get phase [detection] based autofocus with this sensor.
  • Just to be clear, that doesn’t mean we aren’t investigating phase [detection] based autofocus systems, or Time-Of-Flight [ToF] autofocus systems, or maybe something really cool that none of us have ever heard of before… but at this time, with this camera, this is what we’re going to be able to offer.

OM Digital is considering making future 8K cameras with 32 Megapixel sensors

OM-1 at BHphoto, Adorama, Amazon. GetOlympus. Calumet DE. Fotokoch DE. Wex UK. Olympus DE, Olympus UK, Olympus FR, Olympus IT, Olympus ES. Olympus NL. Olympus BE. Olympus AT. Olympus CH.

OM Digital Global Marketing Eiji Shirota has been interviewed by Japanese youtuber Gizmomo. First he explained why they decided to stick to the 20MP resolution (google translated):

  • The problem with changing the sensor this time was that the sensor has changed significantly by greatly increasing the resolution.
  • The other is to increase high sensitivity resistance and noise resistance.
  • Regarding the resolution, I was thinking of improving the number of pixels, but on the other hand, there were overwhelmingly many requests for better noise immunity, so I decided to maintain the number of pixels.

At the same time OM Digital manager made it clear that they are of course considering to make future OM cameras with 8K recording capabilities.

Panasonic says it is committed to develop the “full MFT lineup”

In this Japanese interview Marketing Manager Tomonori Nakanishi says (google translated):

We believe in the diverse possibilities of Micro Four Thirds, and we are developing such diversified products. In today’s world where full-size machines are becoming more popular in a sense, it may be a unique approach to develop the full-size lineup in-house and at the same time to develop the Micro Four Thirds lineup in full-scale. do not have. However, I believe that this approach will allow the “GH6” to establish a very sharp and unique position in the world at this moment.

Not sure if this means the GX7 and G9 will get a replacement in 2022/2023.
