2023 camera predictions from Tony&Chelsea Northrup: OM-10
They don’t expect any new Panasonic MFT camera for 2023 (or they forgot to mention this). But they expect to see a new OM-10 which I also think is 99,9999% likely to happen!

This could be the first image of the new Panasonic S5II. The camera is rumored to feature a new autofocus system (unclear if it has Lidar). And it might be announced on January 4th.
It’s likely future MFT cameras will feature the same new autofocus tech!
Here you have the first images and specs of the new Leica DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm f/2.8 ASPH. POWER OIS lens.
So what’s different compared to the current Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 II lens? Obviously the new lens now uses the “Leica” brand name. And while it appears that the optical construction remains the same, the new Leica can focus at 0,15m while the Panasonic focused at 0,25m:

An usually very reliable Japanese source sad that Panasonic will announce a new “H-ES12035” lens this week! I don’t know yet if this lens will be a successor of the current 12-35mm f/2.8 II lens (seen on the image on top). Here are the rumored specs:
It’s unclear yet if Panasonic will also share some details about their new Lidar autofocus tech…

PHILE WEB interviewed Mr. Yosuke Yamane of Panasonic The key info here is that Panasonic is aware that it needs to make affordable cameras too. They say they want to attract the younger generation. I surely would be happy if they somehow would continue the GM line :)
.Digicameinfo made this summary of the interview (google translated).
I got confirmation there will be a press event VERY SOON. I am yet not sure about that…but it doens’t look like there will be a new product…but it might be indeed some technology announcement (Lidar autofocus tech?).
Just recently CameraBeta reported:
It looks like Panasonic and DJI are jointly testing a new focusing method. The new system is said to utilize the LiDAR focus technology released with the Ronin 4D. If this technology can be introduced to Panasonic’s mirrorless camera, we can expect a significant improvement in video shooting. It is currently undergoing in-house testing and will be available in the near future.

Two 43rumors readers (Thanks!) sent me more info about the event. Really an impressive number of influencer is in Tokyo.
For example, Jon Simo, Sam Holland, Richard Wong, and even Chris Hau that just recently said that he will not use Lumix anymore (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4kZS7E2G8I&ab_channel=ChrisHau) unless there is Phase AF detect … and now he’s in Tokyo with Lumix in hands?
This might be somehow related to the new Panasonic-DJI Lidar autofocusing tech?
