new Nikon J2 announcement…

Some news from the competition! Nikon announced their new Nikon J2 and 11-27.5mm lens. Full coverage at MirrorlessRumors. Price and specs at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

I would say that there is no big news here. The lens is nice the camera offers small improvements over the J1. I really want to see in one year from now how the mirrorless market will be. My impression is that Canon EOS-M is a much stronger competitor than the Nikon 1 system.

Meantime an interesting info comes from Sony. They will announce a cheaper NEX-7 model, the NEX-6. Could be the competitor of the E-PL5 if this camera will have an integrated viewfinder!

Intelligent ebay filter helps you to fin m43 stuff in eBay.

I already posted this on MirrorlessRumors last week but I want to mention it here for you too. A guy named “Andreas” sent me a link to an eBay project called Mirrorless-deals.com (Click here). It contains complex filters that can sort out all the unnecessary stuff while searching for cameras or lenses. Examples:

All Lumix cameras in worlwide stores or All Olympus cameras in UK stores and so on. He spent a lot of nights on this and it’s worth to try it out and possibly help him in refining the algorithm. It’s still in Beta phase! Nice work!

a little bit of everything…(with lot of lens reviews)

Noktor SLR Magic HyperPrime Cine Lens [Ultra Fast Cinema Prime DSLR Lenses] from Irfan Khokhar Films on Vimeo.

Good Morning! Here is a short roundup of news I collected the last days:

Olympus 75mm test at Pen And Tell (german).
Olympus PEN E-PL3 Up For Grabs (ePhotozine).
New E-m5 book in Japan (DCwatch).
A mini E-M5 spooted on DCwatch.
E-M5 pics at the Olympics by Smallcamerabigpicture.
Some thoughts about the E-7 by Preferredaperture.
Lepidi posted a 17.5mm Nokton review in two parts: part one and part two.
A Lumix G 20mm f/1.7, the Sigma 30mm f/2.8, and the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 Bokeh comparison at m43photo.
This is the most through analysis I have seen on the shutter impact issue with the 14-42 X lens. He compares the resolution of the lens at different shutter speed with 3 different bodies (GX1,EP3,EM5). Wlcastleman.

Panasonic also using Sony sensors? At least on the new LX7…

An imaginary LX7 vertical grip created by a user of the SLRclub forum.

Our reader Trevor pointed out how the new Panasonic LX7 sensor may be from Sony. There is a Sony Japan pdf (download here) that describes what seems to be exactly the new LX7 sensor (From Google Translate):

9.33mm diagonal (Type 1/1.7)
Approximately 12.4 million effective pixels (4072H × 3046V)
■ pixel size: 1.85μm square pixel unit
■ shooting 35frame / s approximately 12.4 million pixels Support

■ dynamic range, high sensitivity Back-illuminated with low noise CMOS image sensor
■ Movie mode 4K2K (4096H × 2160V, 60frame / s)

So after Olympus with the E-M5 also Panasonic with the LX7 is using Sony sensors. Wondering if Panasonic will sometimes in future use Sony sensors in m43 cameras too…

Panasonic says: “G5 uses a different sensor than the E-M5”

Panasonic managers Izumi Tomozawa and Atsushi Kato had been interviewed in Taiwan by ePrice (Translation here). This are some of the key info:

1) G5 uses a panasonic sensor, not the same one in [shoplink 29074]E-M5[/shoplink].
2) G5 can be considered as a sort of “GH2.5” according to Panasonic.
3) The 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor in LX7 is not a panasonic sensor, but purchased from another manufacturer.
4) While developing the LX7, there was two options: F1.4 lens with bigger body, and F1.8 lens with the same body size like LX5. In the end they chose to challenge the former one.
5) F2.3 at tel end is, technically, more difficult to achieve then F1.4 at the wide end.

I am surprised to hear they didn’t make the LX7 sensor!

No AF support on the new Kipon adapter…

Our friend Eduardo sent me an interesting info about the new Kipon adapter:

“I asked the manufactorer:
Does this new adapters allow autofocus? What are the features and characteristics of the micro four thirds version?
Answer:
Thank you for your mail and interest about our KIPON adapters. For the different system between mirrorless camera and DSLR lens, autofocus speed is a little slow,so we gave up the autofocus function. Using this adapter, under M model, can control the aperture though the dial ring or button in the panel of camera.also A mode is also available, also MF assistant function. Many thanks.
