Egami spotted that Konica Minolta patent. So it’s not Leica, but Konica that likely designed the Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 MFT lens? Wondering what kind of role had Leica on that lens development…or are they only selling the Leica logo?

Note: There are differences in the design between that Konica patent and the real Leica lens. That said it is not unusual for a patent to show different kind of design variations. So we astill don’t know if it’s Konica or not that designed the Leica 45mm lens.

Frame rate is pre-set and given by the file format  .MOV and there is no way to influence it.
As for today we have no info about upcoming firmware, but as we were said the movie issues has been mentioned.

Lee: “Not rumor but I just saw the news you have posted regarding EM1 long exposures, it happens to Panasonic GX1 as well, and those little speckles will be gone if the NR is turned on. I have written about similar issue sometimes ago in my blog –

No intention to drive traffic to my blog but would like to point out exact same issue I see happens to both GX1 and EM1, If the camera sensor has this problem, practically two things can’t be done – long exposure timelapse and startrails because you need to turn on NR and that breaks the interval.
Previously I have tested GF1 and this issue is unseen. I’m curious about GX7/GM1. By the way I don’t think Panasonic fixes the problem ;)“

Alan (video on top): “I’ve found over the years that the Tele – Conversion or Crop Mode on the G -Series of Lumix cameras really comes in handy if you want to extend the zoom range of your lenses and even helps on the other macro end of shooting. Here’s an example of how it can turn a lens that has a short focusing distance like the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 into almost a macro.”

Its a music video for the band Capital Cities, who have had some decent success with their last two releases. I DP’d the shoot and chose the GH3s because of their combination of size, wight, and lens choice. Those primes I mentioned are great video tools. The editor and post production crew both commented positively on the look of footage and how it didn’t feel like an HDSLR – or at least it didn’t look like the 5D footage they normally see. Wasim: “I thought you might be interested in sharing with your readers a piece I did about Hurricane Sandy in the Breezy Point/Roxbury area of New York (next to where all those homes burned down). I shot the piece almost entirely with a Panasonic GH3 and a bunch of lenses (Oly 75mm 1.8, 45 mm 1.8 and Panasonic 20mm and 14-140). I used a Nikon D600 to shoot the photos right after it happened last year, but I found that using a smaller kit like the GH3 and whatever lenses I had that day helped me move around this very tight-knit, private community with much greater ease than my larger gear. Anonymous: “Hello there, thought your readers may like this video I made. It is a short mini-doc on a street artist friend of mine. It was shot using two GH3’s. The main interview was shot with the Lumix 12-35 f2.8 and a Rokinon 8mm fish eye on an automated slider. The timelapse was shot with the 12-35 and most of the B-Roll shots are Canon FD lens: the 28mm f2, 50mm f1.4, and the 85mm f1.8. I really love the Canon FD lenses. They have much less contrast then the Lumix lens so I end getting a much flatter picture profile which is what I prefer for color grading. For the intro POV shots I used a GoPro. Nikkei just released some info about the 2014 Panasonic camera strategy:

– Panasonic will launch five new (fixed lens) compact cameras. That’s exactly the half amount of the cameras released in 2013
– These compact cameras will cost around $300 or more. Focus is on high-magnification zoom cameras
– Main focus of the company will be on the mirrorless interchangeable market.
– Panasonic will also launch a device capable of capturing 4K ultra-high-definition video  (it’s now in development).
– Panasonic is working to increase the sales of lenses (also for surveillance cameras)
– Panasonic anticipates a second consecutive year of losses for its digital camera business in fiscal 2013 on the back of weak sales of compact offerings. Global digital camera sales are expected to shrink by over 2 million units this fiscal year to about 4 million.

Mirrorless strategy summary: In short this means Panasonic will now focus on making a breakthrough in the more profitable high-end amateur or pro market. A 2.500 Euro “cheap” GH4 with 4K recording and modular design is the one camera that should allow this. On the other side the focus goes on the supertiny GM mirrorless camera and lens development. Overall it’s going to be a challenging time for all digital camera makers. The economic crisis and the “natural” slow down of the digital camera market are hitting hard on all companies balance.

I might just see a nice shot and the GM1 will get it. When I take my DSLR out on these kinds of trips, I’m acutely aware that it’s there the whole time.”
