The next (stupid) financial analysis predicts (again) that Olympus will disappear in 2014.

Screenshot of the “stupid” predition from 247wallst.

247wallst (Click here) predicts that Olympus will disappear in 2014. Now , honestly, I can’t understand why this BS is floating around the web almost every year. It’s now the fourth or fifth time I heard from analysts saying that Olympus will close the coming year. That “prediction game” is so old that it’s likely that the only thing that disappeared are some of these financial analyst guys :)

Addendum: By the way, two months ago I read plenty of reports about the coming European winter being one of the coldest in history. Guess what, it’s hot as hell here and no snow anywhere (expect on higher mountains). This is just to say how much people wants to spread news just for the sake to get viral :)

Jon:If you like, feel free to share my E-M1 gallery, all shot with the E-M1 and the 17mm f/1.8 and 12-40mm f/2.8.   I’ve had the E-M1 for 2 weeks now and I’m extremely happy with it (I also have the D600 and X100S, just so you know where I’m coming from). Here’s the gallery: http://www.openbloom.com/CAMERAGEAR/Olympus-OMD-EM1-Gallery

Tomek:Olympus OM-D E-M1, E-M5, Live Time and… Christmas Time ;-) http://youtu.be/HAdXyQxk-j0

Martin:Not a rumor but I bet this is what all Panasonic video shooters would love to have: http://cdn.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFiles/picture/218923/83767197.gif

Nicholas:The mounting plate of my M.Zuiko 12-40 PRO lens broke off, just as others have reported. Three of the four scores sheared. This happened while mounted on an E M-1(with Battery Holder) in a padded Lowe Pro Bag. The bag fell off a bed onto a heavily padded hotel carpet. It was such a minor fall that I didn’t even look inside the bag when it happened. I only realized the lens was damaged the next morning when I took the camera out of the bag.
I called Olympus and they acknowledged there was “an issue,” and assured me that warranty would cover the repair. Perhaps most troubling: The technician iI spoke with admitted that they do not have a fix. He encouraged me to keep checking the website for updated information.

Samsung extreme EVF solution (you can pull and tilt it).

.

The first announcement of the year is made by Samsung (with the NX30). It’s not really a spectacular camera btu it has one new literally “eye catching”  feature: The EVF can be titled and pulled(!) for the comfort of your eyes. You tell me if such a “pulling” EVF would be nice to have on a MFT camera!

P.S.: “Our” Panasonic GX7 can tilt the EVF and not pull it.

Japan: These are the most sold cameras in 2013.

BCNranking publsihed the exact Japanese camera sales number for the whole 2013. Mirrorless interchangeable camera market share is 40% (DSLR has therefore 60%). Within the Mirrorless world Olympus takes the lead with 29.1% followed by Sony 26.4%, 14.2%, Panasonic, Ricoh imaging 9.8%, 9.34% Nikon, Canon 9.25 percent.

That said the Olympus E-M1 and the Panasonic GX7 and Gm1 have come to market very late. And at least in USA the Olympus E-M1 seems to sell very well according to Amazon US ranking (click here to see the list).

P:S:: New Years deal: Plenty of Gold Box deals on Tripods ongoing right now at Amazon US.

Reichmann from LL: “E-M1 is the camera of the year 2013”

Like so many other websites also Michael Reichmann from Luminous Landscape chose the Olympus E-M1 as camera of the year 2013. He writes:

Simply put, the Olympus O-MD E-M1 is that company’s new flagship camera, and while not inexpensive, provides proof that Olympus is run by engineers and product marketing folks that actually understand the needs of photographers. Sadly, this is not something that one can say for all camera companies these days.

Good job Olympus. Now let’s see if the new E-M10 will be the next praised and well selling Olympus camera…

Panasonic sells 51% of three imaging sensor facilities.

UPDATED: I don’t know what this could mean for the digital camera business future. But Panasonic just announced a new joint venture with TowerJazz (press text as pdf here). The key info here is that Panasonic sold 51% of three semiconductor manufacturing facilities to TowerJazz which now owns 51% of the new created joint venture company. Panasonic still keeps the 49%.

The transferred plants are from Hokuriku:
