Are you getting the Panasonic GH-4 at the best price? (Panasonicindex).

Gonzalo:I bought the Panasonic Leica 42.5mm f1.2 last September after some months of careful consideration, since I already had the Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm and I did not shoot with it that much, after all; however, since the Nocticron arrived, I paired it with my GH3 and it hasn’t left the camera ever since. Not only I have found a superbly built and rendering glass, but, most importantly, I have discovered the joy of a short telephoto lens for street and urban photography, which is what I usually shoot, and not as much for portraiture, as most of the people do. It’s from this perspective that I have written my impressions of the lens in my blog, where you can see plenty of images from the streets of Bangkok:

Personal View Q/A with Panasonic.

Personal View posted a short Q/A sesssion with Panasonic. Threse are some of the answers Panasonic gave:

1) It is hard to add new recording formats (ProRes or RAW) via firmware update. The capability of GH4 codec engine does not guarantee the process of those recording formats.
2) There is no way to add 4K recording on the current G6 camera.
3) About the future products: We will not focus on the premium segment only (Editor’s note: Does it mean new GF and G are coming in 2015?)

First video and images of the soon to come 2X Anamorphot SLRmagic lens!

SLR Magic 2x Anamorphic Test HD from Jurek Ugarow on Vimeo.

SLRmagic will launch their second Anamorphot lens in 2015. it’s a 2X Anamorphoto and Jurek Ugarow is the first person who tested the lens and realized the video above (with the GH4). The lens will probably ship from Q2 2015 and there is yet no price info. Videomaker will be happy about that news also because current Anamorphot are very expensive! SLRmagic first 1.33x Anamorphot is now in Stock for $899 only at Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

This is how the new 2x Anamorphot looks:

For those of you who don’t know why those kind of lenses are useful read that official BHphoto description text:

Creating a widescreen 2.35:1 image using a camera with a 16:9 (1.78:1) sensor requires you to either crop the image or use an anamorphic lens attachment such as the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33X – 50 Anamorphic Lens Attachment. The SLR Magic adapter features a 1.33x anamorphic element that allows you to use the your cameras entire 16:9 sensor to get a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, as opposed to throwing away information by cropping the 16:9 sensor to achieve an image with a 2.35:1 ratio. Cropping an image causes a loss in resolution, but the Anamorphot 1.33x – 50 is actually squeezing more information onto your sensor. This does result in your recorded footage having the classic tall/thin squeezed image. However, this is easily expanded to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio in most NLE systems, and cameras with variable display adjustments allows you to stretch your image in the viewfinder.
The Anamorphot mounts onto your taking lens and features three locking screws that you tighten to secure the adapter once you have aligned it on your taking lens. Please note you can only use the Anamorphot on lenses with a non-rotating front, otherwise the anamorphic effect will rotate as you change focus. The Anamorphot’s native mounting thread size is 62mm and will mount directly to lenses that feature 62mm filter threading. The included three step-down rings allow you to mount the attachment on optional lenses with a 49, 52, or 58mm front thread. You can use the adapter on lenses that feature a front filter thread larger than 62mm by using optional step-up rings, however optimum results are not guaranteed, and SLR magic recommends using the adapter on lenses with a front element that is physically smaller than 50mm in diameter. The Anamorphot features a Normal/Near adjustment setting. SLR Magic recommends setting the adapter to Normal, and only adjusting the setting to Near when shooting objects closer than 6.5 feet.

Transcend Launches 256GB SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 Cards for 3D and 4K Video Recording

2014/12/05

Transcend Information, Inc. (Transcend ), a worldwide leader in storage and multimedia products, is proud to announce the launch of 256GB large capacity SDXC UHS-I cards. Featuring the full support for the Ultra High
Speed Class 3 (U3) specification, Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 cards are capable of reaching incredible read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 60MB/s. The cards also provide the immense storage capacity more than enough to save all the high-resolution 3D, 4K and Full HD recordings.Unmatched Storage Space up to 256GB for 4K Recording
With a wide range of capacities from 64GB to an enormous 256GB, Transcend’s UHS-I U3 memory cards are fully equipped to handle the increased capacity requirements of professional photography and filmmaking. For instance, the 256GB SDXC UHS-I U3 card can store more than 40,000 high-resolution JPEG images (12 megapixel camera, 6MB file size), over 16,000 RAW images (based on 14MB file size), or a full 16 hours of 4K Ultra High-Definition footage (4096×2160 35Mb/s H.264 AVC compression). Moreover, Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 cards make extended video recording sessions possible thanks to the use of the exFAT file system that allows users to exceed the 4GB size per file limit of FAT32.

95MB/s Transfer Rate with Top-Quality MLC Flash Chips
The Ultra High Speed Class 3 specification guarantees a minimum constant write speed of 30MB/s to facilitate cinema-quality video recording. Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 cards, however, can achieve at least double this performance with top-quality MLC flash chips, offering blazing-fast read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 60MB/s. Such performance ensures continuous lag-free smooth 4K and 3D video capture in stunning real-world color and clarity. In devices that do not support the UHS-I specification, Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 cards still offer constant write speeds of at least 10MB/s (SD Speed Class 10 performance), which makes them perfect for Full HD video recording as well as fast-action consecutive shooting.

Transcend’s Free RecoveRx™ Software
For added value, Transcend’s exclusive RecoveRx software features a user-friendly interface that allows users to search deep within a storage device for traces of erased files that can be rescued; the files include digital photos, documents, music and videos. With just a few mouse clicks, users can easily recover virtually any type of digital files. Moreover, RecoveRx supports SD Card Formatting and Data Protection functions, providing the ultimate convenience to manage any memory card.

All Transcend memory cards are fully tested for compatibility and reliability, and carry Transcend’s renowned Lifetime Warranty. The SDXC UHS-I U3 cards are available in 64GB ($49), 128GB ($109) and 256GB ($289) capacities.
