There are some really unexpected news coming from the Bcnranking 2015 Japanese markets share report:

1. Olympus gained 12% of market share in the mirrorless segment!
2. Panasonic lost the third place to Canon

I want to remind you that in Japan the mirrorless market is as big as the “classic” DSLR segment. This makes the Olympus +12% jump even more impressive! The big looser is Sony that didn’t release any major sub $1,000 camera in 2015. It’s really a good news for Olympus who has been often written as “dead” in the past. Now let’s hope the PEN-F and E-M1II (Photokina) will help to keep the momentum.

On the other side Panasonic gave up the third place to Canon. And this is also a surprise if you take int account that Canon EOS-M system is quite a joke in terms of lens offerings. So I wonder what “went wrong” at Panasonic. They certainly had some nice cameras released in 2015. So maybe there is a marketing issue and not a problem in the product range?

Those are the improvements:

• Compatible with Olympus lens with a built-in image stabilizing function.
  • * The camera body recognizes the IS built into the lens, allowing for optimal image stabilizing effects.
    • * Not compatible with 5 axis Sync IS.
  • * You can get the effects of rolling stabilization from the IS function of the body, along with the effects of image stabilization from the IS function of the lens.
• Compatible with Windows 10.

Bjoern: “Hi I’m Bjorn from Belgium and an enthusiastic amateur GH4 moviemaker. I pre-ordered the new Panasonic 100-400 in the Netherlands for €1699. (Olympus 300 f4 costs here €2600; so the difference in price is bigger here).
For making movies of nature and wildlife I prefer a zoom. Wild birds are mostly too far away for a nice close-up, so I’m very excited about the new Panasonic 100-400.
I started with the Panasonic 100-300 but was very disappointed in this lens: too soft, too slow focus and manual focusing ring too stiff. The Olympus 75-300 was a lot better: micro-detail is better, focusing ring buttersmooth and a very smooth bokeh. I use this lens not further then 240 mm. This gives me in 4K mode a +-600 mm and the possibility to zoom in till 1440P. You can see the result in a movie I made last October in a little natural resort in the Netherlands: a mix of beautiful landscapes, wild birds and autumn colors. Lenses used: olympus12-40mmPro, Olympus 75mm f1.8 and the Olympus 75-300mm. Enjoy!
