US crazy deal: E-P2 for $500!
Acording to our sources the Olympus E-P2 should be the next camera to be replaced (In February?). But I really didn’t expect the E-P2 price to fall that much! The E-P2+17mm combo is now for sale for $500 only at Amazon (Click here). That’s a $300 price drop in a few days! Let me make some calculations: $500 is 375 Euro and the lowest price I found in Germany is 698 Euro!
Reminder: The new Panasonic 100-300mm lens is in Stock at Amazon (Click here).

Bring on either the upgraded E-6xx they were ready to release last summer before they put the brakes on, or a full featured G2 equivalent with IBIS and Truepic 5+.

A price can NOT be cheap. It can only be high or low.

The OED disagrees with you. Definition 2.A.1.b: “transf. (Applied to the price itself, the place where a commodity is sold, etc.) cheap fare: a fare at a lower rate than the ordinary fare; also cheap rate; also attrib.”

2 years ago |Admin, I also received an email from Olympus this morning with the following content:
“Buy A PEN, Get A Flash
Get a free FL-14 flash with the purchase of any Olympus PEN E-P2 camera and lens configuration. Hurry, offer valid December 12, 2010 through January 20, 2011, while supplies last. Valid only at participating authorized Olympus retailers.”
I’m not sure how this will work with Amazon’s deal, but perhaps you can figure it out.

2 years ago |You mean the EP3 right? Would it be impossible to build an evf into the body without the penta prism, slr look?
I guess they couldn’t sell those external evf units for over $250 then.

2 years ago |I already have a Panasonic GF1. I wonder if it would be worth buying the EP2 for $500 “just to try”, or would it be a silly waste of dough.
What will the EP3 offer? Will it be a disappointing upgrade like the GF2?
greg
2 years ago |If you have a GF1 it soesn’t make sense to buy now even if the EP-2 seems quite cool.
2011 will see the avent of professional m43 bodies and lenses from Olympus and Panasonic. Buying lenses? Yep. Bodies? Nope. Wait and see…

2 years ago |Lets face it, the M43 cameras are stuck and not selling (except for GF1 and E-PL1)

2 years ago |wow … that is a super price, the lens is junk so pop that on eBay and it makes a great deal for the E-P2 body!
(clearing stocks, making way for the E-P3?)
UK prices
- the best I could find for E-P2 + 17 = £664 (US$1050)
- the best body price is £539 (US853)

2 years ago |If they’d be clearing stocks, even if the successor hasn’t been announced yet, why doesn’t the price for the GF1 drop (significantly)? Doesn’t make sense. (also I am angry at Panasonic’s price policy. I am just waiting to buy the GF1 cheap(er), but I guess I have to wait some more).
Gino
2 years ago |It does make a perfect sense – Olympus and Panasonic are different companies. And GF1 has got next version (I cannot say it’s _upgrade_) already.

2 years ago |Funny sometimes, eh? First everybody wants pro-quality in a small package at the lowest possible price, then someone pops up who complains about the whole thing being too cheap!
Sometimes I wonder whether some people out there are like this:
“Okay, I’ve got my super-pro compact MFT with a lens where the aperture (say 1.2) allows me too shoot DOF like I’m used to it from my Canon. It’s a lightweigth camera equally capable of funs shots as of pro shots with a fast shots and a high dynamic range. With inbuild evf and lens it cost just about 200€ and basically is the best there will ever be!
BUT: I didn’t ask for weathersealing and it’s too small for my fingers and also I think I’ve seen more noice on some review than on a ‘regular’ DSLR – must be because of that stupid sensor size which I didn’t really like from the beginning! Couldn’t Oly please make a Sony NEX – only better? Oh yeah, did I mention, it’s too cheap a bargain? That’s the latest thing that put me totally off!”
Sorry, I just could not resist! ^^
You lot out there, use whatever tool you prefer but would you please start enjoying your shooting! I’ve got a Canon Powershot and while it’s far from perfect when it comes to image quality, it is soo much fun to use!
Panasonic GF2
2 years ago |Panasonic provides announced the Lumix DMC-GF2 Mini 4 Thirds camera. Any simplified model with the corporation’s GF1, Panasonic GF2 inherits the same flat-body layout but with revised handle layout and touch-screen manage.
You got a really useful blog I have been here reading for about an hour. I am a newbie and your success is very much an inspiration for me.
