Thom Hogan critizes the E-P1 autofocus
Thom Hogan is sharing his thoughts over the E-P1 autofocus. It is important to mention that he didn’t use the newest firmware!
P.S.: Ken Rockwell has also something new to say about the E-P1 http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/00-new-today.htm

3 years ago |Well, i am not sure if i could share rockwell’ s opinions. He evidently refuses to accept that digital cameras are computers, like his desktop pc, when he states that firmware upgrades should not be made, and the manufacturers should have made their homework. Does he apply this attitude to his desktop pcs as well? Then, he must be an unhappy man. And what’s this statement about the olympus software? That is ridiculous. The sw may be unstable, but running it once in a while for firmware upgrades will not ruin his pc, will it.
And see his blog on the m9. Leica has tried to catch up for 40 years on slrs, and now they are leading? Oh come on! The m9 is fantastic, a wonderful addition, and competitve in performance and price, but can i mount and correctly focus a 600 mm tele lens? There is still room for slrs, unless leica manages to integrate on-screen focussing (like on the ep1), and electronic integration of more lenses, e.g. the R lenses.

“Nikon’s instruments were instrumental in Japan’s terrorist attacks against America at Pearl Harbor.” This is in an article about Leica’s M9
I can feel the anger, yes, punch canon in the face now, good. Now pee all over olympus while kicking panasonic in the nuts, perfect. What’s funnier is the “how great are macs!” article at the top. His camera reviews read like a mac fanboy, it’s always: this camera is ok, but it’s no leica!

3 years ago |that’s right the ep-1 sucks. He does have a point. That’s why i’m waiting for much better 43 or better sensor cameras to arrive. First adopters always hit all the bugs

And never take anything that Rockwell says seriously.

3 years ago |Getting a bit fed up with ppl complaining about the AF. If you wanna shoot animals or sports just buy a 1D Mark III, 7D or whatever dslr. Why do people buy a mirrorless small E-P1 and try to do shots where the cam is never designed for. Use the E-P1 for what it’s good at and stop this totally useless arguments. I even did weddingshots with the E-P1 where I would normally use the 5D and it just works fine.
Is the same as complaning the M9 does bad at doing soccer matches. Or do we ever see a sportsphotographer using a Leica?? Or do we see an M9 used on jungle trips?? But no.. The E-P1 is flawed because it can’t do fast AF. Next complaint is prolly it’s not weathersealed.
And Ken Rockwell is lost itself. he prolly buys Windows 7 without updating it anymore since it should be right out of the box.
Ok, back to my first cup of coffee today
