There is still a place on earth where you can buy a new GF1 :)

I still remember the day when the Panasonic GF1 was announced. It was September 2 2009 and I was sitting in a Hotel in China (close to Hohhot). It was a game challenging camera, a dream come true. A camera that quickly grabbed the heart of many photographers. Now the GF1 is discontinued and forgotten on the photography news site. But a 43rumors reader found a place where you can buy them new in box…in UK! The Silver GF1 is for sale at TheTechLodge (Click here) while display GF1 versions sold by TheWhiteGroup in Black (Click here) and Red (Click here). It may be not a deal to grab, but after such a long time I thought it would be nice to remind you of a glorious camera! And you have to read the best GF1 review written by Craig Mod (Click here)!

7 months ago |Why get a GF1 when the GX1 is around and does everything better?
caver
7 months ago |Well, you clearly do not have a GF1, so how can you make that statement – which just is not true, by the way.
QBNY
7 months ago |You clearly don’t have a GX1 to make the statement You just made! The GX1 beats the GF1 in everything! Better Grip, more megapixels, BETTER.
Being Nostalgic is one thing (I know, I want a L1), but saying the GF1 is better than the GX1 is clearly FALSE.

Just in case you think you’re right..
GF1 can’t even bounce flash.
caver
7 months ago |Once again, you don’t have a GF1. All you can do is quote other web sites? That is hilarious And, yes, you can bounce the flash.

7 months ago |I don’t own either, but have used both a lot. The drive selector might be better on the GF1, but I just can’t think of anything else I prefer on the GF1. Do you have some examples?
MrGuyFawkes
7 months ago |I own both and the GX1 is definitely an improvement and better over the GF1….it’s the reason a lot of us bought it in the 1st place…but i see you don’t take reasons and hard facts for answers…oh well, this is the internet afterall:/

7 months ago |No you cannot bounce flash with the GF-1.
caver
7 months ago |And you clearly don’t have a GX1 to make the statment YOU just made.
QBNY
7 months ago |What’s wrong with you, caver? Fact are Facts, not Opinion. on a stat sheet the GX1 trounces the GF1! By the way, I own both the GF2 and a GX1 both with EVF’s. I would even say the GF2 is better (photo quality wise) than the GF1.

7 months ago |I’d go as far to say that the GF-1 has higher IQ at base ISO
QBNY
7 months ago |Lower noise at high ISO 703 ISO vs 513 ISO
The DMC-GX1 has a slight edge (0.5 f-stops) in low noise, high ISO performance
Lets not even talk about video.
caver
7 months ago |You conveniently avoided the comment. He’s talking about BASE ISO.
whiskybravo (bean5y)
7 months ago |I definitely wouldn’t want to use my GF-1 at ISO 513.
Now that would be ridiculous!
rpm40
7 months ago |On the plus side, that $775 gets you probably the best 2 kit lens bundle ever. The 20mm goes for $350 and the 14-45 is probably worth at least $250, so you’re getting the body for about $175. Thats like e-pl1 money…chump change!

When I got mine at the beginning of 2010, no way did I know what m43 was to become! Even if m43 failed I would have been happy with my GF-1 and 20mm until probably now. Instead I got hooked and fell in love with m43!
To think I paid $1000 for it too!

7 months ago |I still have and use my GF1 (and E-P2)with 20mm lens, even though I have an E-M5. Still takes the same stellar photos, which miraculously do not get worse with age. It even has that “outdated” or “ancient” sensor many of you uninformed ones like to dump on.
I guess I will also hold on to my backup GF1 – still new in the box.
Nico Foto
7 months ago |I have to agree. The GF1 was awful in ISOs any higher than 400. But, if you stayed at base ISO, that camera with the panny 20mm outputted some really beautiful pictures. There was some “magic” going on there. I don’t have my GF1 anymore…sold it because of the high iso limitation, and because of getting an E-M5, but it was, in a way, the camera that *started it all*.
woof woof
7 months ago |“The GF1 was awful in ISOs any higher than 400″
How strange…. I used mine at any ISO. 3200 is a bit ropy but 1600 is perfectly useable and cleans up nicely. Even 3200 shots clean up if you are willing to spend a little time on them.
IMVHO anyone claiming the GF1 is awful at anything over ISO 400 is doing something wrong.

7 months ago |I got GF1 in April and I am amazed every day with the camera. I had E-PL1 with EVF and used it for over an year with about 30K shutter acttuations (yes you read it wright) and used it for pro jobs as well. PEN produced beautifull jpegs and had an ok ISO 1600 if used with fast lens, and also an inbody IS is incredible, EVF helps in every aspect of photography…problem is it has slooow AF but real slow, not even af assist lamp… and also had quirks with 20 1.7 (aperture not being open always in live mode even if set to 1.7 only movie mode) so i bought mint gf1 with just over 1k shutter releases. I carry it every day everywhere and do a jobs (shooting night life (parties, clubbs)) for a web portal with it and a external flash. People asked me if i was using my pro gear (5dmk2), they could not believe its not a pro DSLR. I even do a studio shooting with it if its not to important to print too big but i can get it to print A3 anytime. Only thing i regret is EVF which i dont have and everyone says its not good and OLY’s is great. but maybe ill get it on ebay if i find good deal… I have a plan of getting GX1 body with an EVF soon. Also i kind of miss OLY colors, and great JPGs (saving space on sd’s on long nights shooting) but it is worth every cent.
PS. Paint on body is sensitive and i suggest getting a ever ready case or something and also Screen is prone to scratches to easily.

7 months ago |One thing is “cleaning up nicely”. An entirely different one is maintaining color gradation, saturation, hue, dynamic range…you know…
whiskybravo (bean5y)
7 months ago |I agree with Nico Foto, over ISO 400 was not very usable. So I converted a lot of shots over 400 to B&W and added grain! Looked pretty good and people thought it looked arty.

7 months ago |I absolutely loved mine to death. It was the first “real” digital travel camera and introduced me to m43. I may work Blads and big Nikons but the GF1 changed street and travel photography for me in a very positive way.
In addition I git the GX1 and while its touch control of AF points is great, I still feel that its not as snappy as the GF1. I really hope that Panny is going back to its roots with the GX2 and make a photographers camera with less gimmicks.

7 months ago |I’ve upgraded to an EM-5 but I still have my GF1 and EVF. I still love it and for the prices that the used ones are oing for I’m going to keep it and still use it. The files from it are still amazing.

7 months ago |GodFather , I prefer to call it GirlFriend .
I missed the golden era of GF1 so I managed to get a GF2 , now already sold & replace it with GX . For me , GX is a true successor of GF , carrying the spirit to a higher level .
But things getting tough nowsday , with NEX , OMD & Fuji X , Pana really need something very very special to regain the golden era again .
Only a breakthrough in technology will do .

7 months ago |best camera I’ve ever owned, advanced my admittedly amature photo skills light years. None of the new cameras are even tempting, because why should I replace something I am 100% happy with? What possible use could I have for more pixels? What makes the GF1 great, for me, are the controls, so simple and intuitive, the metal body, and the lenses. I’d rather spend my extra money on drugs and sex!
Will
7 months ago |Stick an Evf in the corner, put the latest sensor in there and you have a leading camera again. What is wrong with Pana and Oly, if Nex can fit the highest resolution Evf in the Nex 6&7 in such a small space, make it so, hasn’t that always been the major drawback of any and all cameras, no vf???

7 months ago |The Pen’s are selling like HOT CAKES. Why would Olympus want a GF/GF camera? For serious photographers they even have the EM-5… which is epic.

7 months ago |I’ve had my GF1 since 2009
I’ve been shooting digital cameras since 1998, and have owned many crop / full frame cameras. I have not loved any of them as much as I love the GF1. I probably have more than 30,000 click on this GF1.
My biggest issue with it was the inability to have a “small” center-AF… and have the setup “stick”. I don’t care that you can change everything with the camera (you will have to do deep-menu=diving). All I want is to have center-AF, Aperture priority, and ability to change the Aperture and EV quickly. GF1 does it PERFECTLY.
Bought GX1… returned it. Bought E-M5… returned it.
GX1′s image quality is not much better than GF1 (to me the DR is much more important than MP), and I’d say I can get much better “final” output with the GF1. E-M5′s has great IQ, but it’s UI/operations was designed by 5 year olds
I probably will not upgrade until my GF1 dies

7 months ago |The GF1 was ergonomically much better than the PEN siblings, and the performance exceeded the PENs for a long time until the EP 3 generation came out.
Will
7 months ago |I choose the E-P2 over the GF1 because of a)IBIS and b)ergonomics. At the time, it was a wide held belief the GF1 was a faster machine which to it’s credit it was a bit, but only just, i’d say the EP’s and the GF1 were neck in neck.
btw the EP-2 is still my primary camera.
amalric
7 months ago |+1 so is mine.
I completely re-evaluated the E-P2, after discovering that AF is blazing fast with the latest 14-42 II lens.
Most reviewers believed (and still believe) that the AF problem was in the body, while it was only in the lack of linear motor lenses at the time of introduction.
I read that it is very fast also with the Sigma 30/2.8. So you get a fine camera, with great colour signature and resolution for a v. modest price.
People simply make a lot of false assumptions, and the internet does the rest…

7 months ago |I love my GF1 although in daily use it has been replaced by a G3 because of the viewfinder. Image quality at base ISO is still fine with the GF1 though, as are the controls.

7 months ago |I still can’t find a “right” camera to replace my GF1. The files that it pumps out with the 20mm and Voigtlander 25mm are simply amazing. Somehow I’m still not convinced by the OMD, perhaps of the form factor, and maybe that’s why I’ve added a X100 to settle my camera urges. How good would that be if the Fuji are m43?! Too late….

7 months ago |Had one. In burgundy red, very nice. The camera itself was… okay, I guess. Never used it much, in the end – I just don’t like Pana colour jpegs, they look plasticky. B&Ws were better, but jpegs from Oly were a lot better.
Had an EP1 before that – I like that camera more. Now have Ricoh GXR with M mount and I’m happy. But eyeing a Pen Mini EPM1 with 35mm lens, just for that Oly B&W out of the camera B&W shots.

7 months ago |I have one. It’s an excellent piece hardware but when it comes to the software, oh I can’t tell how much I hate the colors, they are duall and artificial with oversaturated (clipped) reds and sometimes blues (depending on the scene). I also don’t like the deep shadows, the blown highlights, he inconsistent exposure and white balance, and the exposure bracketing–not goof for HDR. However, I got great pics out of it shooting raw and spending so much time post processing.

7 months ago |Just by accident I compared at DPR today, my favourite “clock with date” section of the raw comparison shot. At iso 100 its one of the very few cameras showing that the hour markers actually are bi-sectional. Very nice and clean. Only OM-D comes close. G3 falls behind. Go! Look for yourself. I was astonished.
I have G3 and GF1 – and guess what? I pull the GF1 a lot more often than G3. Can not exactly say why, mainly handling I think.

7 months ago |Carry my GF1 with me every day, it’s so quick and easy to use, dials in all the right places, fits my in my hand perfectly, takes knocks and with the 20mm f1.7 produces some high quality files…love it.
A couple of images from my blog shot recently on the GF1…

7 months ago |Now Panasonic, I need you to go back to the DMC L1 for the GX2. I need the size to be in-between the GX1 and the L1, I also need it to be Fat like the L1 is, with a beefy rubber grip. I need the weather proofing and metal body. I need the VF to be on par with the LVF2 or better, Or the option to use it on the GX2, if there isn’t one.
In summation, Merge the GX1 and L1 into a MFT camera to rule them all.
Yun
7 months ago |I agree with QBNY , exactly spoke out my mind .
The most important thing is a cutting edge sensor to remain in the race .
I prefer the idea of another series above GX line . Attached it with the new summilux 42.5 F1.2 , & that will be the winning formula .

4 days ago |My GF 1 was stolen in South Sudan, and silly me thought I could replace it. Could not and bought a GX1 instead. Even after nearly a year with this thing I am still not happy, and miss the GF1. It was/is a great little camera, and out put is amazing. EVen though the GX1 is supposed to be an upgrade I still don’t really think so. I have not been pleased with the GF 2-3-5, and quite frankly if Panasonic doesn’t come out with a game changer, morphing the L1 with GF 1, instead of all this silly touch screen crap, and make a real camera, I will continue to go with fuji..and sell my substantial m43 lens collection.
