Philip Bloom: The GH2 is better than the hacked GH1!
Home Cooking…avec le GH2! from Philip Bloom on Vimeo.
Philip Bloom had the chance to play around with the new Panasonic GH2 and the new Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 lens.
What are his thoughts about the GH2?
“Very easy to operate. LCD touch screen great and intuitive and nice resolution. EVF lovely, great resolution and makes handheld a dream! Nice to have audio meters on screen. Image… gorgeous. SO MUCH better than GH1. No mud, no nasty vertical lines…Although all shot at low ISO I did some 2500 ISO tests and there were really good! I found ISO 800 almost unusable at times on my GH1, and any underexposure in dark areas even at low ISOs…UGH, no problem now…” . And after his first short test he says the GH2 is better than the hacked GH1!
What does he say about the lens?
“It’s simply my new favourite lens, shame it won’t go on my Canons or Leica M9. It has a beautiful look to it, great bokeh, so solid and well made and can focus as close up as a macro. LOVELY!”
You can order the lens on eBay (Click here) or Amazon Germany (Click here)
P.S.: The GH2 should start shipping today in US (let us know if you receive it!). Those are the GH2 direct links to some of our affiliate shops:
Amazon US, Adorama, BHphoto, Amazon UK
, Amazon France

3 years ago |It seems that Panasonic is (now more than ever) a brand for videographers…a shame that other brands are having so much improve on their sensors (for photography), but panasonic is not improving, or if its, is just very little…m4/3 had high hopes at the beggining…doest seem to be the case anymore….even having some great lenses and etc….

3 years ago |There are two authorized Voightlander dealers in the US, so why not mention them as opposed to ebay. I know you may not not get some revenue from cameraquest.com or photovillage.com, but I ceratinly would rather deal with then they amazon Germany.

I believe the Admin has enough on his hands besides being “price-comparison” or convenient store locator, i suggest Google for that.

3 years ago |I don’t live in Euro so I don’t stay update on these things (25p) but on his website he said
“24mb/s only in 24p mode, 17mb/s in 25p mode. BOO Panasonic, sort it out for us EU folk who need the highest bitrate for broadcast!! Please?”
It reminded me of the Hitler 25p video
It sounds like Euro may have gotten the 25p after all?

3 years ago |Although many guys assume broadcasters will consider using GH2, I still doubt whether in reality broadcaster will like to use the video contents encoded with compressed AVCHD media at maximum 24Mbps even before post-production? If quality is not the priority, why bother insisting on 25p. Otherwise, why they would opt for internal compression rather than grabbing data from its uncompressed HDMI and record the contents to some portable recorders instead?

3 years ago |I think people were mad at the fact that the GH2 cant do 25p straight out the camera without extra work.
The last time I heard Euro GH2′s were not going to have 25p at all (25p hitler video)
But He (phill) says its sad that 25p maxes at 17mp/s
So it sound like the euro camera will have 25p after all no?

3 years ago |In my opinion, GH2 is better than hacked GH1 in motion videos. It is not for still videos with low motion. Of course, I think GH2 is truly more than a consumer camcorder in terms of video quality and added feature sets from GH1, like Extra-Teleconversion (I can use the Leica DG 45mm/f2.8 macro lens to produce 234mm equivalent distance shooting indoor when there are too few fast lenses with OIS available), uncompressed live HDMI, audio level indication with level 1 bypass the internal amplifier. Cinema color mode and touch AF.

3 years ago |You write a lot about the video functions of these new MFT cameras. I would be more interested in knowing more about the photography side to it. IQ and how user friendly they are. I was very disappointed when Panasonic replaced the mode dial with stereo mics on the new GF2. What a shame…

3 years ago |Great site, but none of your ‘shoplinks’ work when viewed on my iPod Touch (they show the ‘shoplink’ markers but no clickable URLs are inserted). Would be great if you can fix that.
