8 months ago |So fast got firmwares for both lenses .
What about firmware for Summilux 25mm ?
Dpohtog
8 months ago |Im confused , what was their speed before? How much more will this affect the lenses with the gh3?
Roland
8 months ago |This is what I like from Pana’s policy. At least they don’t hesitate to improve their products.
Mar
8 months ago |So it will work faster on more recent Olympus cameras as well? Not that I’m particularly interested in those lenses…
RTRY
8 months ago |@MAR did you read the post from admin:
“Enhance the AF (auto focus) performance with the sensor drive at 240 fps for use with DMC-GH3″.
It is pretty obvious what it does, i know you Olympus fanboys like to make everything about Olympus lol .
Mar
8 months ago |Oly has 240fps since ep3…

8 months ago |It doesn’t matter what Olympus has ,the guy is right the post from admin says very specifically that it is for the GH3 at 240fps.I thought the Olympus fanboy thing was a bit off but I guess he was right . I know this is usually an Olympus appreciation site, but now and again admin throws the Panasonic users a bone.

8 months ago |@Mar asked a legit question, although perhaps prematurely. Why turn this discussion into a brand issue? Why the vulnerability?
I use an Olympus camera myself (always used them, since the OM-2) and enjoy Panasonic lenses very much. I applaud Panasonic for supporting its products and for offering its customers added value even after the purchase.

8 months ago |Don’t understand the whole brand thing either. I have two Panny m43 camera’s, next will be the Oly and when m43 stays behind in a couple of years I am happy to go to whatever brand delivers what I think I need.
Very nice form Panny to do this btw.
Anonymous
8 months ago |Here, here, I agree, I have used Oly from days of OM-1 superb cameras, today I use 4/3 and u4/3 though as regards these Pana lenses, I consider them over priced, though purely due to Pana’s insistance to using in lens stabilisation. Hower like Sneye I applaud Panasonic for their quick update.

8 months ago |It’s NOT a “legit” question. Admin clearly states for the GMC-GH3. This site has been overrun with so many Olympus Fanboys, it’s hard to come here, better off going to Mirrorless Rumors -NOPE, overrun there too.
Do y’all even take pics?
Henry's
8 months ago |@ QBNY I am afraid that you are right the number of Olympus fanboys destroying forums is getting silly , they are like cockroaches you let just one in and pretty soon you are infested. Their MO is simple OLympus good everyone else bad , they have had one camera the E-M5 that is actually competitive since digital started ( every other camera sensor they have had was behind the times the day it came out) .
Mr. Reeee
8 months ago |Unfortunately, you’re right. Although, over at DPReview it’s far, far worse. Here it used to be fun and informative with some nice comeraderie, but little of that remains.
M4/3 is a fantastic SYSTEM and the fact there there are multiple partners and lens makers involved makes it rather exciting and special. We all have our preferences and come to M4/3 from different places, which makes it MUCH more interesting and adds some very interesting perspectives to photography and gear.
Rampant Oly-fanboi-ism has poisoned the watering hole and it’s a real shame. If you don’t sing praises or bow to every whim or foible of the retro Gods of Olympus… brace yourself.

8 months ago |I doubt most the people here even own m4/3s things…

8 months ago |if a post said new firmware helps AF with OLympus lenses , I would not be stupid enough to ask does it help Panasonic, this is part of the insidious. Olympus fanboy BS we have to put up with in every other post here.i am not surprised by the annoyance. felt by the other posters to what was an idiotic question. If any of you had read some of the fanboy BS from MAr on dpreview you would not be in the least surprised someone suspecting his attitude.
Mar
8 months ago |How is panny 240fps any different to what Olympus has?
Of course Panasonic will say it’s for gh3 since they won’t advertise their competition. , but it’s safe to assume fw update will affect af on skull 240fps m43 cameras.
homer
8 months ago |Not necessarily, my Panasonic lenses don’t focus as fast on Olympus bodies despite them having the 240fps sensor.
mki
8 months ago |Don’t be a dick Mar , why would Panasonic say it was to help AF on the GH3 specifically if it wasn’t . Looking at the various in body corrections carried out on certain lenses it is pretty clear that Olympus and Panasonic are not working together 100% or anything like it.
QBNY
8 months ago |So, Mar asks if it works on Olympus cameras, EVEN THOUGH he’s “Not Interested” in the lens.
Then, he says Olympus was already able to do 240fps.
THEN he drives the point further, sounding defensive (on whatever Olympus camera he/she owns), claiming Panasonic won’t advertise “competition”.
Plus his Sig is an Olympus camera logo.
If this wasn’t a “Rumors” site, I wouldn’t even come here anymore. The Olympus fanboyism here is Pathetic.
Admin should just rename it Olympusandother43rumors.com
Digifan
8 months ago |@QBNY
I think you’re pretty childish. This is 43 rumors not Pana or Olympus specific. 43 was mainly Olympus, only two body is what Pana brought to that table.
Although Panasonic says the new FW is specific for Pana GH3, I think it’s fully legit to ask if it will aid Oly cams too. After all we’re talking about a standard.
You guys must be new to m43 since Olympus also had situations with FW that were beneficial to Pana bodies too.
I think the whole brand discussion within the m43 standard is silly as it is. I have and had camera’s and lenses of both AND 3rd party mfrs.

8 months ago |Unfortunately, the posters are right about Olympus fanboys destroying every forum in which they post. I honestly don’t get it Olympus were bit players in film compared to the big players, in digital FT was and is a huge failure. And looking at the recent BCN, or Amazon numbers it looks like the only Olympus mFT gear that is shifting in any volume are the low end low price kit options.
Yet we still have to listen to BS from them in every single thread here, where is the IBIS , Olympus FT lenses were better than anybody’s ,despite the reality being that FF easily outperforms any Olympus camera and lens , it is a system you can’t take photos without a damn camera, so the only result that matters is the end one ,which is sensor + lens = image.
Olympus have a long and noble history in photography and while it would be genuinely sad to see them go the way of Minolta at least we wouldn’t have to listen to the fanboy BS. I would be worried if I was an Olympus fanboy { I am just an owner 45mm,75mm and waiting on 60mm macro} letting predatory companies like Sony get a foot in the door could be a very bad move.

8 months ago |Luckily we never ever get comments about needing OIS with every Olympus lens announced…
Its easy to see the faults of ‘the others’, but panasonic ‘fans’ are no better, just have less things to do this with.
firstly
8 months ago |Olympus fanboys are the worst on the net bar none. I love some of my Olympus mFT gear but I am honestly put off talking about it in any forum as I am liable to be strung up if I dare mention an issue. Crazy as it sounds I think that some of these guys piss other postersboffnthat much they probably lose some sales for Olympus. I am not saying you haven’t seen them but I have never seen a post looking for in lens IS on an Olympus lens. Anyway enough bitching I am off out to test my new 75mm on my GH2
Anonymous
8 months ago |Then go read any random thread about the 75/1.8 here, as the questions fot OIS so it can be used on pana bodies is pretty much always there, often more then once.
Ignoring the behavior of the ‘own’ group while spotting the same behavior with others and taking offense is very human, but that doesn’t make it correct.
QBNY
8 months ago |I own the Olympus 45mm lens. Do you hear me -or anyone else crying about “No Power O.I.S.”? It’s Silver, yet I STILL made the purchase!
Didn’t think so.
Childish is asking dumb questions, -Knowing it doesn’t pertain to them, trying so hard to justify their purchase. Being completely oblivious that people have opinions.
So when I say this site has a Olympus fanboy problem, I’m not making it up, it’s the Truth.

” for use with DMC-GH3.”
Admin did not say “for use with M43 cameras.”
And if you can have FW downloaded to THE LENS, then wow.
SO, when Olympus had the FW for Banding issues with the Panny 20mm, I should’ve asked if it’ll work with my GF2/GX1? By your logic, it’s a “Fully Legit” question??
Please.
Anonymous
8 months ago |Maybe you don’t ask for the 45/1.8 having OIS but such questions are plenty whenever a new Olympus lens gets introduced regardless of that.
And no you are no stranger to absurd agruments to defend what Panasonic does, considering your reply to digifan.
Is it a case of you not understanding the difference between firmware for a camera and firmware for a lens?
Asking if a firmbware update for a lens also works when mounting it on another body that in theory wlould benefit from that update is totally different from asking if a firmware update installed on one camera fixes something on a totally different camera.
So… thanks for proving the point you were trying to dismiss.
Vastloper
8 months ago |This is great. I already have the 12-35mm lens and am planning to buy a new body. I really hope the coming GX2 will also support the 240fps with this lens As I think the GH3 is just a litle bit too big for me (currently a GF1 user) and I do not need all the GH3 features.
My current ideal camera would be in the form of a gx1 with integrated range finder style EVF and the speed of the GH3. compactness of GX1 and speed are the most important to me. The image quality of the GX1 is already a step up on my GF1. I’m really interested what the GX2 will turn out to be, but I think there is a realistic possibility it will have the GH3 focus speed.
Paulthomson
8 months ago |‘vastloper , yes I am hoping for the same from the GX1 , I love the GH format for video but the GF1/GX1 body style suits me better for stills

I just have a real question. I own an OM-D and the 12-35mm lens. Any idea if it’s possible to update the firmware on the lens with the OM-D body?
bart
8 months ago |I never updated the 12-35, but I have checked firmware versions of Lumix lenses on an OM-D without problem. Because of the joint update service from Pana and Olympus, updating firmware should be no problem either…
I think my 20/1.7 is at 1.0 still, will check and update it on my E-M5 and let you know how that worked out if you want.
Joe Schmo
8 months ago |Thanks for the reply. So, do I just use the Olympus update utility that I used to get to 1.5 on my body, or is there some other program?
bart
8 months ago |Turns out my 20/1.7 was already at 1.1, but I also have a Lumix 14-42 which was at 1.0 still, now at 1.1, updated while mounted on the e-m5, using the Olympus camera updater
So, yes, you just use the Olympus camera updater.
