Panasonic LX3 will become concurrence from Samsung?
The Panasonic LX3 is the most prised digital compact camera…but not for long time? Samsung is becoming really aggressive in the digital photography market. They have nice APSC cameras, the first NX camera should be released soon and I bet next year they will go fullframe.
And on July 7th they are read to announce a new compact camera, the HZ30W. Why should the camera be a strong LX3 competitor?
A fairly bigger sensor than most compact cameras, nice optical range (we do not know the aperture) and Oled screen.
Here the specs revealed by photorumors.com
* Design like HZ series
* 1/1.8″ CMOS sensor instead of a CCD 1/2.33″ (10mx?)
* ISO 100-3200
* Video Full HD
* 5X optical zoom (24-120mm) with ring zoom
* 3″ AMOLED
* RAW files
* It will call WB700 in Europe

4 years ago |I think the LX3 does so well not only because of it’s relatively fast and wide lens, but because they panasonic didn’t participate in the megapixel war with this one. Not cramming in more mps allows for better noise control. The samsung sounds interesting, but we’ll have to see.

4 years ago |I agree with Mark; there’s nothing new or unique about a 1/1.8 sensor. My 3 year old Fujifilm F30 has a nearly same sized 1/1.7 sensor. The difference between a 1/1.8 and 1/2.5 is negligible anyway.

This would be the first 1/1.8 CMOS sensor – the ones in the Canon SX1 and the corresponding Sony are 1/2.5, and their picture quality is severely compromised even at base ISO. This one might actually be OK at base ISO, and add good video, and top quality screen to the mix. It sounds as a good contender.
As to why it’s on this site – well, micro four thirds face competition from both ends. From DSLRs and quality compacts both. And both of these poles offer particular qualities, m43 offerings cannot afford for instance to compete on compactness alone, because there are cameras out there that are far more compact and are actually quite capable photgraphic tools. Is a 2 f-stop advantage in light capture enough to hold them off?

4 years ago |Samsung compact cameras have always been pretty lousy, I dont have high hopes for this one either, but then again if olympus’s ep1 works out good then I wont even bother with compact point and shoots again.
