Panasonic Interview and new Panasonic/Olympus reviews
On top: E-P3 Video Review from Digitalrev.
Fotopolis published an English interview with Michiharu Uematsu from Panasonic. In short, he confirms they are working on new viewfinder technology and focus speed improvement. And for him the future is Mirrorless (not DSRL).
Panasonic Lumix GF3 review at Trustedreviews: “It’s really hard not to like the GF3 – it’s very small, very stylish, very easy to use and is capable of delivering very good image quality too. On top of this it also offers a generous amount of user control, some useful shooting features and excellent HD video recording abilities. Our only real concern is that the removal of the hot-shoe is a step backwards in terms of flexibility. ” New GF3 studio shoots are available at Imaging Resource.Panasonic G3 review at Fotopolis (google translated!): “Panasonic Lumix G3 is an interesting proposition for amateurs and for those who prefer a little more size than access controls. It offers image quality comparable to the SLR, but it is closed in a much smaller package. Items that are missing in the new Lumixie is primarily the removal of the proximity sensor with an electronic viewfinder and the lack of artistic modes, HDR images and vast panoramas”
Olympus E-P3 review at Adorama: “Would I recommend this camera for photojournalism, street, documentary, and travel photography? Absolutely—even with the higher price tag, and even though I would have to pay extra for an eye-level viewfinder—because in the tradeoff between speed and quality, in these particular areas of photography speed will inevitably win, and the E-P3 is faster than anything else out there in its size and price class for capturing the decisive moment.”

11 months ago |Are you talking about the interview with the Panasonic exec? I take it that you are not talking about the Digital Rev review with Kai – his English is very good!! I always enjoy Kai’s reviews. Its good to see the AF improvement of the E-P3 for some street shooting.

11 months ago |EP1,2,3 Question to those who have experience:
How does Dynamic Range evolved in out of the box JPEGs (not raw!), as the sensors remained roughly the same?
When I git my Oly E-510 years ago, I though the sensor was defective and wanted to bring back the camera, so blown the skies appeared as soon as there was even the smallest cloud. Or land was underexposed.
DXO tells daynamic range remained the same (even including the E-510..
) all over the years.
A low dynamic range translates into clipping of high tones (usually). There are tricks (with some draw backs)to circumvent this by tweaking the tone curves, which in the e-510 did not really gave better results.
How is it nowadays? Anyone did some comparisons from camera to camera?
Has DR improved in JPEGs from lets say EP1 to EP2 to EP3?
deniz
11 months ago |from what i have read around, there is a slight improvement in the shadows, not so much in the highlights.

11 months ago |personally when i’m comparing its always with raw and not jpeg,
raw represent the maximum of DR that you can get

Yes…but as to highlight clipping (really a problem with E-510, and as to DXO measurements all subsequent olys seemt to be the same roughly)m highlight clipping can be reduced by underexposing the image and then pulling up the darker areas of the image.
That’S why I asked for DR in JPEG and not in RAW which (should be) unprocessed by the camera.
If there is enough “headroom” in the darker areas, then this (albeit dirty) method could to a certain extent enhance DR.
So Oly can get a little more out of its bad old sensor in DR …
Do they do this in “in camera” processing? And does it works?

Excactly, and that’s more than surprising as especially consumers nowadays harvest the most wows of their friends by showing around panorama pics. And I must admit, I like theses features as well and wonder why Pana is lagging behind so much in theses things!

11 months ago |Hmm.. it doesn’t look smaller, at least not much. So I suppose it is either cheaper or better. It doesn’t look cheaper though. It seems to be tiltable, just like the VF2.
