Panasonic GH2 vs Canon (+3D during video mode possible if you cover the electronics contacts)
Cinedigital.tv made this Lumix GH2 vs Canon 5DmarkII vs Canon T2i comparison.
Digitalrev posted the first part of their Panasonic Lumix GH2 vs Canon EOS 60D Review. It has been written by Andrew reid from EosHD: “Having already covered the video side of these cool new DSLRs on EOSHD.com, I’m approaching this review from the stills side. “…”In video mode, quality is excellent, easily beating the Canon 60D. But in stills mode although it’s a good improvement over previous Lumix G cameras like the GH1 and GF1 it cannot match the Canon 60D“. P.S.: Imaging Resource published a set of image samples.
But Andrew discovered a nice trick to enable video recording with the new 3D lens (which by te way is in Stock at BHphoto right now)! “Now, it seems by simply covering the electronic contacts of the Lumix 3D lens with paper you can shoot with it in video mode, not just stills.” Read mroe about that on EosHD (Hey Andrew you should find a new name for your website!).
For our US friends: Panasonic store has a bunch of Body Only GH2 in Stock! A few more cameras are in Stock at eBay! And an expensive silver GH2 is in Stock at Amazon

3 years ago |Admin, i could not find more detail from the panasonic body only seller. Does the body package come with others stuff like battery, charger, memory card, etc? Does it ship to SE Asia?
their 20mm lens sell much expensive comapre to BH ptoho..

3 years ago |The body only is being sold from the U.S. Panasonic website.

“So metal body, with a 920k screen, and reduce the megapixel count back to 12MP for the GH3 please Panasonic for better high ISO performance.”
This guys are nuts. Yes, I see differences between GH2 and 60D performance at ISO6400, but no, both are totally OK.
Or they are going to whine about high ISO performance until camera would be able to take flawless pictures with closed aperture in a room without light?????

3 years ago |Gh2 @ 1600 and 6400 ISO are all perfectly ok for me.. especially with some minor PP..not sure why he’s pixelpeeping.. except to make money as a reviewer.

3 years ago |Instead I do agree with the reviewer.
Metal body is the less important, but I would agree on reducing the megapixels for reducing the noise too.
but most important is the screen, when canon has 1.000k screens, sony nex-5 921k ones, why a new top of the edge panasonic shoud have the resolution of the first G serie?!?
how can why rely on manual focus on a such low resolution?
i tried a 550D and focusing is far more precise on it.

3 years ago |Yes, the GH2′s LCD screen is relatively low res, but the GH2 EVF has 1.5 million dots — significantly higher res than the LCDs on other DSLR cameras.
When manually focusing a GH2, use the EVF for best results.

3 years ago |can we improve the GH2 high iso performance by setting the saturation and contrast a bit higher?

3 years ago |Called Panny and they said the body only package comes with all normal accessories. They also said that the camera is shipping from the US, with a shipping date of 1-3 days after ordering. I am so tempted to do it, I don’t necessarily need that 14-42 kit lens, it’s kinda crappy anyways. But my gut is telling me not to do it, does anyone have that same feeling?
If they’re shipping from the US in a few days, then I’m guessing all the other dist will get them soon.

3 years ago |No, my gut said go for it. I ordered last night. I’m sick of waiting on Amazon. I’m ready to have my GH2 so I can start using it instead of reading about it here on this forum

3 years ago |tell me about it. Adorama just told me there’s still no ETA on my pre-order.

3 years ago |I share your gut feeling to wait. I just think the signs all indicate that Panasonic is having troubles making this camera and lens… Al

3 years ago |In addition, the Amazon link above is for Willoughby’s, a super old school photography shop est. in 1898, in NYC. I know that shop, and if they’ve got 5 of the silver available (at a very inflated cost mind you), then I’m hoping Adorama and B&H will also get them soon. NYC peeps, post any news you may have!!!

3 years ago |Looking at the sample images from imaging-resource.com (and the other day’s review at photographyblog.com) I’m still amazed at the fact that at Panasonic they can’t get decent colours out of their cameras. Resolution is very good, noise control is good (a bit too aggressive for my taste, but effective) but colors are so ugly… I guess it’s cured by shooting RAW, but still.
Zonkie
3 years ago |To prove what I mean by ugly colours, just look at this image from the GH2:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/DMCGH2/DMCGH2hHOUSE.HTM
And compare to the same image from the Olympus E-5:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E5/E5hHOUSE.HTM
In the samples from PB there were also many with that green cast.

3 years ago |i agree with that…although canon has auto saturation and warmth adjustments within its firmware, their colors are “prettier”, even though it may not be accurate to the true colors of the scene, at least according to my eye. sometimes i find that the lumix colors are truer in some situations but still not very pleasing. it almost looks like a video still. one can fine tune settings for preference, so whatever? i just fix it in post to what i want.

3 years ago |Actually, this relates to a point I was going to make: I am so sick to death of reviews like this one where IQ=high ISO performance. There are many other aspects to IQ which are arguably far more important, especially if (as in my case and I’m sure many other people too) you never shoot at super high ISOs.
Colour is one very important one: yes, you theoretically can fix it in PP, but that’s a lot of time and effort. The other one that’s really important but highly underrated is optical quality. Olympus really wins out on these two fronts, but because the reviews constantly equate IQ with high ISO performance, they’re always rated lower on IQ.

3 years ago |If there is any significant difference in image quality between the Canon and Panasonic I am not seeing it. The choice mainly boils down to preferences in design, format, accessories, and customer support.

3 years ago |Wow, this video is VERY surprising to me. To my eyes, the Rebel T2i beat both the 5D II and GH2 in both moire and jello. With all the hype around the GH2 among the video crowd (to the detriment of the photo crowd), I had just assumed it was the best video camera around. My interest in the GH2 for their video was just knocked down a notch. Perhaps the GH2 is just the bargain king and not the video king.

3 years ago |Placed an order with Panasonic store. Not showing up in my order status, and been on hold for a long time with customer service. Bullcrap I tell you.
Panny store now says “see dealer for price” for the body only black.

You realize thus significantly in relation to this matter, made me in my view consider it from a lot of varied angles. Its like men and women are not involved except it’s one thing to do with Lady gaga!
Your individual stuffs excellent. Always maintain it up!
