UPADTED: Panasonic GH1 hack doubles the AVCHD bitrate to 86Mbit?
Very important reminder: The Hack will NOT work if you have a brand new Panasonic GH1 with a build date of June 2010 or later. Vitaliy can’t tweek his firmware tool if he can’t access the 1.34 firmware from the Panasonic site. More about that at DVXuser. (Thanks Sady for your information)
UPDATE: It looks like the info from EosHD is not correct. Follow the DVXuser post here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=22290

This is NOT CORRECT!!!!
If you have upgraded to the latest firmware from the Panasonic site(1.32) then the hack WILL work!!
The Hack will NOT work if you have a brand new GH1 with a build date of June 2010 or later because it has the unreleased 1.34 firmware! This is the problem. Vitaliy can’t tweek his firmware tool if he can’t access the 1.34 firmware from the Panasonic site.

2 years ago |Actually, the latest firmware the user can download is 1.32, the unhackable firmware is version 1.34 which is on gh1 models built after a certain period this year.
As soon as 1.34 is downloadable it will be hackable. If it is ever downloadable. Although it is likely when they release new lenses.

Any chance to get any word from Pannay/friends why they have intentionally limited video functionality in the GH1 that way?

2 years ago |From what i’ve read, the 24/25p native mode still crashes (i never managed to do that, but i didn’t try hard to achieve it nor i used the video hack that much, yet) like it did before, however the card read error that usually limited the bitrate was somewhat solved by this ‘fix’…
Now…. Let’s hope for a fix on the 24/25p native mode (my guess is that it requires a bit of messing on the firmware code and not constants only), and we get ourselves a reliable camera for any situation…
Once/If the firmware hack reaches the CHDK level, it will be one hell of a camera (i kinda pity the GH2 if that ever happens – but there is also the possibility that GH2 carries a similar firmware)… GF1 is included

2 years ago |Just a note…. alot of people say that Panny intentionally limit the video functionality…. while this is true, they do it to cover their backs.
If they set a high bitrate, the joe public tries shooting some video with his $5 SD card…. he will send the camera back because it crashes and can’t record video.
It would be nice if they had a higher bitrate option in the menu… and a low one as default though…. maybe this will happen in GH2?

2 years ago |no point keep having higher bitrate, you just had massive large video file, won’t be much of diff in video quality since is not higher resolution.
