2 years ago |that is so nice! that is the anniversary of the first unification of Romania. that was in 1859.
but that’s no reason to buy gifts.

2 years ago |What’s more damaging to Panasonic is the price tag. You can get an E-PL1 at less than half the price by then.
Henrik
2 years ago |Yeah the price is rather… out of place? I thought it was launched to compete against the NEXes and E-PL1?
Tobias W.
2 years ago |Also, the GF2 better offer a better image quality than the GF1 which DPreview also rated below the E-PL1…
Philip
2 years ago |They all have the same sensor. There are differences in jpeg-quality, but raw should be almost exactly the same.

Even with the standard kit lens it will be almost twice as expensive as current E-PL1 kit prices.
By January the E-PL1 will be cheaper than now…
davide
2 years ago |Yeah, the only problem is that I cannot have the (oly) E-PL1 with the (panny) 20mm in a kit otherwise I would have already bought both. Purchased separately, their are overpriced too.

2 years ago |I don’t think this will be a big seller. But if the price was near epl1 I would prolly go with gf2

2 years ago |Damn this is pricey. I’d expect to get two lenses for that kinda price.

2 years ago |Why the outcry about the price on the GF2 when this price for the two lens kit is about that for the GF1 with only one lens when released a year ago? This was the price for the GF2 stated in all the previews so why the surprise other than most manybe didn’t read closely before posting their complaints. The two kit lens kits for the NEXs and EPL1 are the most popular models of these cameras by far in Japan and many other countries.
With all the initial outcry complaining about the GF2 on this and DPR forums, I would not be surprised if Pany were to first deliver to the Japanese market where they are sure to get a very enthusiastic reception and leave deliveries to UK and US to last. We have only ourselves to blame by saying we would never buy this dumbed down model and then complaining when it will not come soon enough? Judging from the comments one could conclude that many are EPL1 owners who seem to feel threatened?
While I also prefer manual control dials, looking at all the advances the GF2 brings to the table I would chose it a heartbeat over the GF1 if equipped with the same lens. Consider its significantly smaller size, better erogonomic front grip, new processor from GH2 which halfs the AF speed, provides better JPEGs, color, high ISO, lower noise, best HD video in a compact ILC, excellent sterio speakers from the GH2, and extra tele converter mode for video increasing focal length by 3x for starters, and smaller, wider, faster AF and silent new lens and advantages of a touch screen for fast picking the point of auto or manual focus. After all aside from the new touch screen interface the GF2 has 10 buttons and a control wheel to set most functions.
As for timing, hopefully pictures and projected specs for the new expected Pany rangefinder with EVF will be available by time GF2 is available to buy so people can make a choice and maybe more concrete news about Olys plans for the PENS I hope? Competition and choice is good for all of us.

2 years ago |How much panny paid you for this ad?
Seriously, how can you know all this stuff when nobody has still tested this camera? Yes some things are specs, but most aren’t. Lower Noise, for example??
I agree, competition and choice is good for all of us, but this camera is grossly overprice, for (already normally overpriced) panasonic stuff: take the 14mm (28mm-equivalent) kit for £629.99 ($1016 or 742 Euro), against the 16mm (24mm-equivalent, much nicer focal length, IMO) Sony NEX3 for $499.
Listen, I was a Panasonic fanboy, really loved their stuff. They have always been too expensive, and they have never been good at marketing, but that was ok. Now they are just got crazy and started joking, and they are indeed losing marking share (and most important mind share) to Sony. If Sony comes out with a few good pancake primes (40mm-equivalent f/1.7 or faster above all), PanOly are (I’m afraid) dead.

2 years ago |Most of the pluses for GF2 listed above were taken from the prereviews or other people’s comments on this and other forums who have handled the GF2 preproduction cameras and not my experience. I personally hoped for a swivel screen model or higher resolution small EVF option. I did want a smaller version of GF1 and believe Pany has delivered on that.
I agree in the past both Pany and Oly m4/3 prices have been too high for many but I think NEX competition has forced them to come down recently and I think that the GF2 at $700 to $600 would prove to be good competition to the NEXs. I also serously look at the NEXs as a viable alternative but prefer present smaller lenses and focal lengths from Pany and 2x multiplier on small legacy lenses is a plus for tele purposes.

2 years ago |Well, in Japan, the GF2 doesn’t have the official release until now. Especially on the official website, it shows Still the Gf1 now.

2 years ago |this further validates my purchase of gf1 with 14-45 for $600. i waited and waited for photokina but then i realized even if something new comes (GF2), panasonic is going to price gouge for it.
its not even that much of an improvement… as far as i can tell:
14-45 > 14-42
$600 > $900
GF1 size < GF2 size

2 years ago |I am not sure you can get a GF1 with zoom lens for anywhere near the $600 price you got earlier? There was an ad in Amazon for a few GF1 w/20/1.7 lens but that was a come on which quickly disappeared except for used ones. On last check I couldn’t find anything less than $ 724 for same and most prices much higher as apparently with the released news on GF2 as a replacement for the GF1 many rushing to get one while they can especially if wanting one with a 20/2.7 lens. For a GF2 with only single 14/2.5 lens you will find the price is much closer to $725 in comparison not the $900 you think as that was for two lens outfit.

2 years ago |If gf2 come with same sensor as gh2, manual controls to zoom, iso, shutter, exposure, focus, intervalometer, remote shutter, mic in, 2 hdmi outs, 14mm lens at under 1.0 y pay I 1000.

2 years ago |Listing the projected prices of the various GF2 kits available is helpful but is for UK market only which has tacked on an extra 20% value added tax to a price which usually already higher than that in the US. Consequently the price in US market usually only a little higher than the quotation in pounds in England. Expect the base model of GF2 with zoom lens to be about $700 in US by my reckoning or same as NEX5.

2 years ago |LOL! All those fanboys were defending their love and joy — the big Panasonic Corporation, saying Pana was creating a new low-end category for beginners so they could come out with a GP-2 later on. LOL, a sucker born every minute on the web. Anyone watching Panasonic knows they like to have fat margins on their low dynamic range plastic cameras and lenses. After all, they worked with Leica so they must be due these prices, right? Goes to show, Pana doesn’t have much clue about the photo biz. They only know what Leica taught them — charge more and give them less!
