Panasonic GF2 review at Cameralabs (E-PL2 slightly better)

There is a new Panasonic GF2 review at Cameralabs (Click here): “Ultimately though the Lumix GF2 is a desirable and welcome new addition to Micro Four Thirds camp and one that will undoubtedly find favour with enthusiasts and ambitious novice photographers alike. It’s a lovely camera to use and one that’s also physically very desirable, but the issues discussed on this page – or perhaps more fairly, the benefits of its rivals – means it just falls short of our top rating in direct comparison. It still earns a hearty Recommended though.”
Where does it fall short? “Overall we’d say the Olympus E-PL2 has a slight edge over the GF2. The GF2 crops look less contrasty and softer than those from the E-PL2“. Interesting: “With a larger sized sensor you might expect the Sony NEX-3 to produce superior result to the micro Four Thirds cameras, and it does, but the differences aren’t that marked at least at this lowest sensitivity”

2 years ago |the 14mm is a good lens, sometimes you better look for samples shot with this lens on Flickr or other sites, preferably done by a photographer who shoots regularly/alot, only then can you see if a lens shines or not.

2 years ago |Disappointing review in some respects in my view. First in their comparative pictures for noise they showed the low ISO ones twice rather than the labeled high sensitivity ones? Second when looking at the only ISO 100 and 200 ones one could not see the EPL2 advantage claimed rather one saw poor white balance and reddish pink hue in all the EPL2 pictures ruining any scene with white in it.
While Camera labs fairly noted that the GF2 body was significantly smaller than the EPL2, they made all their comments and testing with the larger kit zoom lens rather than comparisons with the small 14mm pancake kit lens which 90% of all GF2 comes supplied with at the quoted $699 price. The price is only $599 with kit zoom so they unfairly dinged the GF2. I would rather have seen a comparison with the 14mm/2.5 lens as that is the one which gives the GF2 its real advantage in small size and lens speed over the competition.
