Panasonic GF1 hack improvements (now with manual movie modes!)
The firmware patch is now bringing manual movie modes for the Panasonic GF1 (it works like on the Panasonic GH1). This includes all M, A, S modes.
Vitaly told us that “You need to go to menu and set appropriate mode. Also if you go to menu in picture shooting mode it’ll convert to corresponding movie mode, just turn wheel one click and return it back to go to back to normal picture mode. This can be even handy 
Tested and working. Including shutter control during recording, etc.
So, GF1 can be used as second camera now.”

Is there something left to GH1 that the GF1 doesn’t have ?

3 years ago |Hi Carlos yes it’s 6-7 in the morning in Japan. Usually they announce the cameras at 6am London time!

3 years ago |The GF1 is not capable of recording a true 1080p video. Other than that yes it has almost all of the functionality of the GH1. The sensor in the GH1 has better low light sensitivity though.

3 years ago |It can’t record 24 FPS either. I forgot about the additional frame rates in the GH1. I will be surprised if the upcoming GF2 and GH2 cameras are actually better than the GF13 and GH13.

3 years ago |And i’m praying this hack can come to G2… that would be a SWEET thing given the G2 is way cheaper than the GH/GF *AND* has all the ‘serious’ video tools of the GH1 (articulated screen) and pulling focus with touch screen has to be tried to be seen how cool it is! I thought i’d never use the touch on my G2 and haven’t stopped in vid and photo (when on tripod and in normally awkward positions). No reason the G2 can’t have the same hacks as GF1 except if panny have locked down the G2′s firmware (?) – so here’s hoping mr hacker gets his G2 donations and works on it soon.

Sure, GH1 has swivel lcd screen, stereo sound, microphone in plug, nice big colorful viewfinder, better sensor, true 1080P.
But if you don’t need those, then a GF1 is just fine
