I sincerely hope Olympus releases new firmware for the Pen series sometimes soon.

Their menu system is a horrible mess, designed by someone who has definitely never thought about usability. All the talk about the Pen system being semi-pro or for advanced amateurs is just blabber as long as the user interface of the Pen is such a pain to use – if you don’t want to just switch to the “art” modes or preset scene modes.

Want some examples?

I count 28 clicks on their horrible menu system, if I want to set exposure bracketing on. Then again, 28 clicks to switch it off.

Setting the manual white balance is another example. Its easy to set white balance to manual mode – this is well executed. But then one can’t actually set the white balance! One has first has to assign the “set white balance” to the function button (about 20 clicks), then press the function button to set the white balance.

Sorry for hogging the comments on the Panasonic firmware, but I’m so annoyed and disappointed by the Olympus usability problems. They really spoil much of the fun I have with their lovely camaras.
