5 months ago |+1, as long as the IQ is decent. Ditto on the macro. Shame though they don’t work on the 20mm, well I bet they do but they are too heavy for a non-internal focusing lens (the 20mm front moves).

5 months ago |Something is brewing up pany’s sleeves…
What this could build up to is having the LX6 taking up either a 1 inch or m43 sensor with lens that can use these converters???
They have to compete against the new Canon compact and Nikon 1 in their own way. More choices for everyone. Wait and see yah???

5 months ago |What a joke. Instead of releasing new lenses they just release lens converters for their substandard old lenses. Where is the 12-35mm and 35-100mm???

5 months ago |You’re calling the 14mm 2.5 an old substandard lens? Interesting…

5 months ago |Another option to consider which may be superior to this Panasonic Wide Angle converter is the existing one for Sony that will actually work on the Pana. Check it out here.

5 months ago |You speak about the pricey camera which is way bigger than one should be w/o mirror (and despite of its size has neither tilting LCD nor tilting EVF), it’s an ergonomical nightmare due to the excessive retro layout and no zoom lenser are planned to be released yet for?

There are fairly minor chances for these zoom lenses to work with the hybrid VF though.

5 months ago |I’m kinda disappointed that these don’t work with the 20mm pancake that everyone loves. They are trying to force me to buy the 14mm which I didn’t want to do but am now considering because of the adapters. DAMN YOU PANASONIC!!!!!!
Robbie
5 months ago |So what are you going to change? from 20mm to?
Anonymous
5 months ago |Sell your 14, don’t buy the adaptors and buy an ony 12mm… Trust me.
Fan
5 months ago |Filter thread is the same, so I’m sure you can attach them to the 20mm too. With different results. You could wait till you see the converters in a store and try it.
Robbie
5 months ago |I think these converters are nice. Have no idea why some think it’s a joke, a camera serves different purposes and budget for different people. It gives people more option when they do not necessarily want to buy a wide angle or telephoto. I have the Oly converters, why quality not outstanding it does give me some convenience. We already know what new lenses are coming why not just wait.
bean5y
5 months ago |Don’t buy the adaptor, don’t buy the 14, buy the oly 12mm on eBay for about US$700. It’s worth every cent

5 months ago |Interesting move, the only thing is that people choose adapters over news lenses due to price, so at least they should make them cheaper. They should also have some nano coating, but maybe they don’t have because the H-PS14042 has, but the 14mm does not, so it means more glass in front of the lens. As Jshaw6000 I’m disappointed that they just release this for the 14mm. People love the GF1 and no firmware updates, people love the 20mm and no offical adapters/converters.
Well at least from now on let them play right for those who will buy the gx1 and this new lens.
bean5y
5 months ago |Don’t bother with the 14mm and adaptor… get the oly 12mm for US$700 on eBay. Worth every cent!
bean5y is dumb

You only said it thrice.

5 months ago |WOW….these converters are as exciting as the new MFT Sigma lenses. Hopefully these converters will fit on the Sigmas. Now there is some hot tech!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!
Sorry..just couldn’t resist. (ah..that felt good)….
Mr. Reeee
5 months ago |And NOW, with a resounding THUD… we get … THESE?
HUH? WTF?
Oh, boy oh boy! More mall-crawler, soccer mom, cat and brat shooter toys? Is that all you got, Panasonic?
@Bob… You’re right! They’re the perfect add-ons for those spectacular Sigma lenses! Just keep piling on the mediocrity, boys! ROFLMMFAO!!!
Why doesn’t Panasonic make a REAL teleconverter? Y’know, the kind that mounts directly on the camera and can be used with ANY LENS!
All these “big” announcements… Fuji, Sigma and now this… what a thrill. Can I go back into hibernation now? Wake me when something interesting is announced.
Bob B.
5 months ago |Just smear some Vaseline on the converter and you are THERE….Sensor Obscura…. LMFAOROTF.
(what did you say..a front-mount converter on a mediocre zoom lens?????? huh….I can’t hear you…).
Wait..wait…why not just put the lens cap back on.
I guess in corporate speak..these converters round the system out to all sections of the market. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

5 months ago |cat and brat shooter… lol. I´m gonna use that from now on

5 months ago |The 14-42x is already poor IQ. Imagine what it will be like with more diopter glass! Forget it!
david
5 months ago |Maybe you got a dud? According to slrgear’s new test, it’s optically the best of the Panasonic 14-42 and 14-45 lenses (especially compared to the 14-42).
WoodWorks
5 months ago |SLRGear doesn’t use real-world testing. I did. The 14-42X is no better than the 14-42, and is measurably worse at 42mm.
Miroslav
5 months ago |Good move by Pana IMO, but I’ve already made my move converter-wise
.
I wonder what was wrong with DMW-LW46 if DMW-GWC1 was needed, but I hope new one will be cheaper than LW46, which is 105 USD in the US, at least 140 EUR in Europe and even 250 EUR in selected
countries.
46mm thread is used on 20mm, 14mm and 12mm m4/3 lenses, so it would be interesting to see which wide converter ( if any ) works best on all those. 9mm F2, anyone
?
P.S. I agree a real tele converter should have been made.
jules
5 months ago |Good to see some common sense
So we now know from some very expressive talk backs here that a 14mm with UW converter is not as good as the 7-14, that a 14-42 with the macro converter is not as good as the 2.8/45 and that a 14mm with a fisheye converter is not as good as the 3.5/8 fisheye.
Apparently not everyone will pay premium price for ultra wide or fish eye and not every announcement are meant to be the next NEX killer.
Quite interestingly however, we have also found out that when Panasonic or Olympus releases budget/low-end accessories for their system, reportedly some m43 owners will threat to move to Sony NEX or Fuji . I wonder how many Canon users loses their sleep over the existence of the 1.8/50…

5 months ago |Teleconverter BEHIND the lens, please!
REP96ST
5 months ago |I think I’m gonna head back to Canon, at least for this moment… The G1X is tempting. Sure, I carry my GF2 with me everyday, but I rarely switch to my 45-200 lens from the 20mm. I like these add ons, but if they can damage my 20, and priced out of my range, then G1X it is…

5 months ago |Why all the negative comments about these front mounted convertors when we know nothing yet about the quality? If you look over on dpreview on Panasonic forum you will find there really are some excellent front mounted convertors for small lenses and the pictures prove it but the publics perception is of the poorer quality ones.
Forgotten by most is the fact that there is little or no loss in lens speed with the teleconvertor attached on the front making it useful to use with slower kit lenses as well as enabling very fast teles with the next generation of Xlenses.
I only hope the price is right and affordable. So with these attachments the kit Xlens can cover effectively 22mm to 170mm at f5.6 and using ETC you can extend that to 340mm at 8 megapixels! Also consider the new 12-35 would become an effective 16-140mm/f2.5 when used with the convertors?

5 months ago |I love their note on the WA converter:
“Enables shooting unique images with rounded effect”
They’re trying desperately to turn a liability into an asset!
…and no mention of whether or not firmware updates will be available for the IS system as would be required to properly compensate for these adapters.
Anentropic
5 months ago |“Enables shooting unique images with rounded effect”
this appears to be on the fisheye, not the wide-angle… you’d expect a rounded effect from fisheye
Isaac ali
5 months ago |Guess I’m alone on actually being interested, at least in the wide angle converter for the 14mm which I own. I’ve never shot with anything wider than that and I’m not ready drop cash on the 7-14, 9-18 or 12mm. Going to give this a try to see if I even like shooting that focal length.

5 months ago |So many negative comments from hand-wringing camera geeks.
And, the communal assumption that the 14 lens can’t cut it. Its a great lens.
Glass in front of glass does sound problematic, but I’m definitely interested.
