This lens is impressive – but lacks in two aspects (apart from price):
- no image stabilisation
- no filter thread
A wide angle is made to snap impressive landscapes, and for that you’d sure want a polarizer lens! Can’t put one on this lens, too bad.
Yes, i know, wide angles are less prone to camera shake problems. Anyway you’ll use it indoors, you’ll use it at dusk, and stabilsation _would_ come in handy sure. No stabilsation in this world seems just a little ‘last millenium’.
I’d rather have the lens start at 9 or even 10 mm, if that made a lens thread and maybe stabilisation possible.
I would rather Panasonic either add stabilization to all their lenses or add sensor stabilization – that’s the most versatile solution. But the Lumix 7-14 will be able to be used on the upcoming Olympus mFT bodies and they will likely feature sensor based IS.
The test results on SLR Gear are most certainly with the camera applying internal distortion correction. However, if the resolving ability of the lens is good, why would it matter how this is achieved?
I agree it doesn’t matter how the end result of low distortion is acheived. However it would be wrong to put it down to the lens having low distortion if it’s software correcting it.

5 years ago |A very impressive performance!
I certainly was not expecting so small a lens to have such low distortion!
Well done Panasonic!
Olympus?

5 years ago |A lot of wide-angles (11-22mm for example) are polarised by default, so this may not be a problem…
