We still know little about the new Panasonic S1 and S1R camera specs. Here are some yet unconfirmed rumors about some additional non official specs posted first on L-rumors.com:

Panasonic are looking at including the following features
on the new S1.

The feeling is they need to lead they way in terms of new features
if they wish professionals and in particular video shooters to adopt the
new L mount and switch from Canon or Sony FF cameras.
It’s believed Sony delayed the release of the A7SIII until 2019 in order to improve the specifications
to compete with the new Panasonic S1.

New features under consideration:

Live Streaming capability
Variable ND Adaptor that will work with Panasonic Sigma and Leica lenses
Stronger and more robust Fully articulating Touchscreen
Internal 4K Raw in 24/25
More details to follow.

New Olympus Q2 financial report: Reduced revenue due the intensified competition in the Imaging Business

Share

Olympus issued the Q2 financial report and new revised forecast documents. And while the company as a whole is doing well there are only bad news coming from their Imaging Business:

They reported a 9.2 billion YEN operating profit loss. But what worries me most is that they had to hugely revise their forecast for the year to year basis. Profit is now expected to drop by -13% instead of the previously estimated -7%.

A month ago Olympus unveiled their future strategy in the Imaging Business:

– Expand sales of highly-profitable OM-D series cameras and PRO series lenses
Mirrorless camera system that are uniquely Olympus, attaining high level of compatibility between
overwhelmingly compact & lightweight and high image quality with the Micro Four Thirds Standard
– Accelerate development of products aimed for professional and high-level amateur users
– Improve manufacturing cost ratio by consolidation of manufacturing facilities and improved
efficiency in manufacturing startups
I am sure the new E-M1X will be a nice camera. But it will be a niche camera and I doubt it can make enough sales to have a positive impact on the overall trend. What’s your opinion on this?

Unexpected: New YN450 Camera will use a Panasonic 16MP Four Thirds sensor

Share

Now this is a bit unexpected: The new Youngnou YN450 Camera will use a Panasonic 16MP Four Thirds sensor. But it’s unclear yet if this means it will have an MFT mount too. All Yongnou says is that it will be compatible with Canon lenses. But my guess is that it’s only a marketing phrase to say you can adapt Canon lenses on it. I am pretty sure this small smartphone alike Android camera can have a native EF mount!
